Reader digest is cheating everyone with the prize letters.
Anyone replying to the prize mails will have to buy books which are useless. The prize letters will have one line mentioned in somewhere in the pile of pages received. Once you reply to any of the letters you will get a gift of some useless object and a book. You will continue to receive these kind of gifts for many months and there will be follow up letter which says you have to pay the due amount. The money will gradually raise and they will respond with harsh followup letters if you don't pay the amount. In the end you will end up paying a huge sum of money over months and you will know that you will never get the lakhs or cars

Never fall for readers digest and I suggest you go for better magazines with good standards.
In my experience Reader digest follows a third rate business tactics which is not even followed by telemarketers.

    Hi,

I had subscribed for Readers Digest one year subscription paid by VPP Rs475.00, paid in April 2011. I received a book on " how to win any argument" during which I was informed to pay and will received my copy from next time onwards. the postage date of that book was 18th April 2011, however till date I have not received any RD book. Its a 12 months subscription and if they are late they should compensate.

on the cover there is ID which is :
    11-RDNC10-RD[protected]/0-1203

    Kindly look into this matter.

    Thanks & Regards,

I have been a subscriber of Reader’s Digest for over 40 years and have been ordering from them, now and then, other publications like ‘Condensed Books”, etc. The company has now resorted to sending me, even without ordering, their publications obviously remaining unsold, at what they claimed at discounted rates. These packets do not declare the contents and are delivered free by post leading the receiver to believe it to be a free gift. But inside the packet, one would find a bill.
The first time I received such a packet over a year ago, I repacked it and returned it at my expense. The second time I wrote to the company that I had not ordered the books, but I am prepared to make payment if they send me a copy of my order or they should collect the books from my residence. Ignoring my letters, the company first threatened to refer the matter to their collection agents, but on posing legal action and claim compensation, expressed regret and promised not to send any more consignments without my specific order.
However, the company has again sent me a consignment of books without my order and again threatened collection of payment through their agents, ignoring my letter to produce a copy of my order. I am now 80 and am not in a position to withstand these illegal actions. The company can collect payment against a copy of my order or compensate me for the mental torture they are inflicting on me.

The Magazine has charged annual subscription of 449 INR from New Delhi in December, 2010 and from Mumbai in January, 2011. Despite several complaints the over Charge has not been refunded till now and no response in the matter. In addition There is a Sweepstakes programme for which I am "Most Honoured" Customer / Contestant. But the letters addressed to me contain Sweepstakes Documents of another reader. This results in non-contesting of both o[censored]s. Without any order a parcel has been sent to me and the magazine demands 699 INR for the parcel saying it is overdue. On 05/05/2011, I have refused to pay unless my letters are replied by responsible persons.

Dated on the 2nd February, 2011
            12th March, 2011.

            To
            M/S. Reader’s Digest,
            Mumbai.

            Kind Attention: Director, Finance.

            Dear Sir,

Sub: Double payment of Annual subscription for the Reader’s Digest for one year.

Ref : Subscription No.[protected] against Account No.[protected], and my E-Mail
to you on 02/02/2011 ([protected]@rdasia.co.in is no more friend, but a foe?)

This informs you that the letter dated 21.12.2010 has demanded annual subscription for the Reader’s Digest, and I have offered Rs. 449/- to be debited to my ICICI Bank Credit Card No.[protected]. On the bill I have mentioned in pencil “I presume the payment has already been made”. On Verification it is confirmed that the payment has been made through a demand from your Delhi Office and the amount has been debited to my Credit Card on 28/12/2010. Despite my request in the bill and an E-mail on 10/01/2011, an amount of Rs. 449/- has been debited to my same Credit Card by your Mumbai Office on 22/01/2011. This shows that the magazine, with multi-establishments, is having no coordination and interaction with each other and also shows explicitly how the Company cares for and responds mails sent by the Customers. On this I would have renamed the Magazine DIGEST READERS instead of Reader’s Digest.

Surprisingly enough a parcel containing a book which was never ordered by the undersigned has been sent to my address with a demand for Rs. 699/- which I shall neither pay nor return the parcel till I get a response for this letter refunding Rs 449. Now I can presume that “NO” reply envelop is not being kept in the Sweepstakes junk intentionally, thus making the reader a forcible buyer as he replies in the “YES” reply envelop, taking him for a sucker.

Further, I would request you to instruct your staff concerned to stop sending predated Sweepstakes Articles to me from this date as I feel something fishy in this.

So kindly look into the matter, against double deduction and refund the amount of a sincere and honest Septuagenarian.

Today I received a second gift parcel of the same books for the annual subscription. I apprehend to receive two prints of the same Readers’ Digest magazine every month. Kindly stop it.

            Thanking you,
            Yours truly,

            S. Balasubramanian.

Sending Sweepstakes documents to wrong addressees. A/c.[protected]‏

            Kind attention Mr. Rajesh Mundra,
To day I received Sweepstakes Documents bearing Ref Code:[protected]. The letter is addressed to me and signed by Priya Gandhi, but containing the Sweepstakes documents in the name of Anju Agarwal. Some months ago the documents in the name of one Mrs. Sen, and another time the enclosures were those of a 20 Bn. NCC Cadet. What bunkum is this? Is it a serious effort to deprive both contestents from participating? If your staff are jealous about our participation after buying products of Reader's Digest for a value around 50, 000/- INR, please send no further junks.

There is also a postal Complaint of not including a 'NO' Reply envelope in the cover resulting in the dispatch of a non-ordered publication and demand of money which is still under correspondence. A copy is attached.

            Best wishes with thanks,
            Yours truly,

When ordering for a 1 yr subscription in their website, after enetring my bank details, the BILLDESK failed, and the transaction got hanged. On speaking to Reader's Digest Customer Care, they said they did not have any info of my order, however, they asked me to wait for 3-4 days to confirm it and re order if necessary.Until all these days I did not get any confirmation of both readers Digest and my credit card. So i went ahead for a fresh booking and got all my confirmations.

Now after a week I checked my credit card bill, shocked to see i was billed twice. When speaking to Cust care, they confessed that there were 2 bookings in my name and will refund if i wanted. so I raised a formal request for the same on 9 Apr'11. on 10 Apr'11 they said it will take 5-6 days for refund. So i email them on 19 Apr'11, they replied saying refunds will be processed in a 'stipulated time'. When asked the same day on what the time line is, the Executive Cust Care Mr.Manish replied on 25th apr'11 saying it will 4-6weeks. How contradictory.

Received an email today saying it will take me 3-4 weeks for refund and it will be a money order. WTF?
That is like 2 months after cancellation.

All communication are available as proof.

Request who ever responsible to react and process the refund ASAP as its 6 weeks since I ordered for the first time.

I have also received unwanted gifts and copies and now 'am asked to pay 699/- for accepting the same which I am not going to.

It seems the company is finding it difficult to survive in the higly competitive market and resorting to such mean strategies. But let me be very clear, this is infact working against the company and loosing the customer base very fast.

                Thanks,

I do not want to receive any more books (Select Editions,or Childrens Animal books.) As I have become retired and on a fixed income I no longer can afford to pay for these books. I have just sent a cheque for the Childrens Animals books , but do not want to receive anymore. My customer # is[protected]. My email is [protected]@shaw.ca. Thank you. John C Jones.

                    Hi,

This is to bring to notice that I have recieved a speepstakes letter today ie 12th April. 2011,(Signed by Vikas Malhotra, Director Sweeptakes) where the letter should have reached me sometime in Dec 2010. This was delivered at my office address and did not reach me because the Reder's digest administartion did not find it important to inform the expected reciepent on Email/registered phone number, either about the offer/sending of the letter.

This obviously resulted in unnecessary disrest, because I have not been able to participate in a worthy programme even being eligible and maybe lost financially as well.

I would like the Reader's Digets team to atleast understand the importance of communication and the different channels of communication where failure may happen, so to ensure the communication has reached the correct level, they should ensure some better ways of Communicating.

                    Thanks

                              Sir

My subscription no. for Reader'sDigest is RD[protected] . I fail to understand why the hell does a reputed publication like Reader's Digest require cheap gimmicks of posting a VPP packet containing a book "Invincible Thinking by Ryuho Okawa". The book has been received in my absence and I was looted of Rs. 472.00 for a book that may not even be worth a single penny. When I have not ordered for any other book, what makes RD think that they can swindle the customers by imposing on them to purchase. I need this issue to be settled. I intend taking this issue further, until I have received a refund of this book. Let RD not resort to such flimsy and third rate canvassing of books in the name of business. RD's SWEEPSTAKES itself has made them a LAUGHING STOCK. So far we have been reading RD for the content. But if this down marketing continues, I am sure readers will think twice regarding shifting their priorities.

My partner entered a sweepstakes competition to win big prize money ammounts and a Mercededes bense. She was told to pick yes or no for a subscription, if you tick yes you get the chance to win alot more, if you tick no you still go into some form of draw. She ticked no, it asked again, this is another chance, its not too late tick yes and subscribe to RD magazine to be in the running to win more. She ticked no again, it thanked her and said she was still in the smaller draw. Few days later we recieved a RD magazine and a subscription bill for around $50 AUD. IT IS A SCAM, they continue to harrass her for the subscription money even after the magazine, and future magazines were returned and they were notified of their mistake. SCAM SCAM SCAM SCAM !!!

I have also fell into readers' digest sweepstakes scam and subscribed for a year last year 2010. I asked to cancel this year's subscription and they say that my subscription "has been terminated as per requested". BUT... they didn't cancel my bill of SGD99.00!!!
They still ask a "Active Debt Collections Service" to ask for payment from me and say in bold that "We are instructed that this letter is a FINAL DEMAND."

What the [censored]??? I don't owe them anything anymore!! Stop asking me for payment!!! I sent another letter to them already. Will update here when they reply...
