Sir/Madam,
I travelled two tier AC coach (A2) from Aluva to Chennai by Train # 6042 Allepey Chennai express on 03-Feb-2010. I and my co-passengers had a bad experience to see cockroaches and rats running everywhere. We had no option but to be accomodated and sleep along with these creatures, with the fear that something will get into our ears and or probably bite us during our sleep. Infact it is written by someone inside the coach that this is a useless train full of cockroaches etc. I failed to understand why the condition of these coaches are so bad, inspite of we paying hefty price for the tickets. I shelled out approx Rs 3700 overall charges for 3 persons. Due to tatkal booking Rs 500/passenger were charged. Inspite of spending such huges amounts for the tickets, I am unable to comprehend that the passengers should travel with Cockroaches and Rats. Moreover the Toilets were very dirty and stinking. Not sure why there is abosolutely no maintenance, disinfestation and cleaning etc. No wonder why India is not able to shine in tourism. Please do the needful and fix this.

Thanks and regards

Train AC Coaches — Cockroaches inside the coach

Sir,

This is to bring to your notice that the cleanliness in some of the AC coaches, of Mumbai Express (Train No.6340), is very bad - to the extent that passengers have seen coackroaches roaming inside the AC Coaches. This experience was on train tarveling from Bangalore to Mumbai, on 7th May, 2008

In addition, the quality of bed roll, blankets, etc. is very very bad.

With all the profits that Indian Railways is making, why is this situation worser than past. As customers, we are not demanding ultimate luxury, but an AC coach should at least be clean & free of coackroaches, & the bedsheets, blankets, also are supposed to be in clean condition. For some reason, if this calls for replacing all the existing stock that the Indian Railways has, it should be done asap.

Expecting a prositive response.

Regards

Manoj Kabre

To the authorities responsible for maintenance of railway stations: IMPORTANT

        Sir/Madam,

The vacant space below the staircase of the foot-over bridge leading to the ticket counter of Chennai Fort Railway Station is being used by the public as an open-air toilet. The smell o[censored]rine is present in the air every minute of every day. No steps are being taken to clean the place.

I request you to build public toilets in that space as this is a matter of public health because hundreds of people use that station and are exposed to the danger of infection. And it also affects our tourism.

If building toilets is not possible, please take actions to clean the area and maintain the hygiene.

Please place a fine on any person who continues to dirty the place instead o[censored]sing public toilets.

        Thanking you,
A follower of the INDIA 2020 dream.

I agree to this, I dont understand why in our country least importance is given in such cases. Toilets are one of the very important basic necessities required in any public places.
Even if a toilet is constructed it will be maintained in the worse way possible. I think we as the people also should take some responsibilities, in the maintanenace part. we still dont know how to use the toilets in hygenic way. our country produces lots of engg. I think we are lacking personal cleanliness.which should come from home or from our schools both fails.

The Puliyur railway station between karur and veerarakkiyam was stopped for operation since 1991.the reason for closure as told by railway administration was poor patronage.

Now within this last eighteen years, the surrounding areas had developed with high schools, engineering colleges, technical institutions and matriculatiuon schools owing to this population, the station was a single operated and no much expenditure will occur, even if so that may be recovered in a short while due to heavy patronage expected in the station. Even very low patronaged station like veerarakkiyam, thimmatchipuram, marudur, jeeyapuram and mekkudi are being operated taking consideration of the public.

The puliyur chettinad cements and the chettinad college of engineering and technology will help financing for the puliyur station,if approached through proper channel.

Because of elimination of this station earlier all the S.T holders, college and school students take pain to travel by bus from puliyur and to reach veerarakkiyam.this reintroduction of this station will ease all these people to use puliyur station for their journey to kulithalai and trichy,etc.comfortably.

          Thanking you

            Hi,
My complaint is that there is no clear indication of 1st class in the southern railway MEMU trains, when you move one couch to another inside the train. No divider to blcok 1st class from others.
And because of that I have been "charged excess fare and fine for innocently travelling in a rare kind of 1st class in a MEMU train that I never used. Its a rare kind because, if you travel by standing in this class you are not in 1st class. If you sit thats it... you are in 1st class. You can move from 1st couch to last in this kind of train.

This happened to me on 02/12/2009 5:15pm at Tambaram railway station, Chennai. Ticket checker came directly to me skipping others standing on his way and asked for the ticket. I quickly and innocently showed him my 2nd class ticket. I'm sure he is 100% aware of getting this kind of travellers specially in this train on a regular basis. I even showed him my daily route 1st class pass to prove that I had no intention to do this mistake. He made me getdown and after unfruitful arguments I paid the fine in deep frustration. The worst thing is I was travelling by standing just before arriving at this station and when some seats got freed, I sat on one and faced this problem.

I'm sure that every new traveller in this train will make this mistake and these railway guys are making use of them but no action to avoid this confusion. They got so many for the same reason more than no ticket travellers. Even there was college student got for same mistake, crying without fine money and offered her watch and few amount she had with her. The checker was least bothered for our unknowing mistake.

Are there any action being taken against Railway employees travelling in 1st class without proper passes? The answer is definite NO. I know this from my regular route 1st class travel. In this train, it seems the Railway is forcing the passengers to do this mistake unknowingly and collecting fine.

I would like some clear discremintaion between 1st and 2nd classes in these trains and request the Railway ticket checkers no to make use of this rather they can clearly mention the 1st class besides there glossy advertisements.

I am a physically handicapped aged 67 years. I had to board the train number 6340 Mumbai Express at Tirunelveli Junction on[protected] along with my escort ( my wife) and father in law aged 84 years. There was no announcement, no conventional sign boards, and the electronic sign boards in switched off condition. " Where the compartment would arrive ? " was a million dollar question in the minds of all passengers. With the help of porters we went to the end of the platform number 2 where our compartment S3 would usually arrive as stated by the porters. ie., starting from S1 from the engine. All the passengers were panic and a chaotic condition prevailed when the train arrived with S10 starting from the engine !!! All the passengers including the aged, invalid and the physically challenged and persons with huge luggage were rushing to proceed to their compartments in panic and high tension scolding the Railway Authorities at Tirunelveli station. Lapse in duty by Tirunelveli Railway staff/ executives in not announcing / guiding passengers to board the train can never be forgiven. Stringent action alone would correct the position. I have sent a complaint to Railways and waiting for the redress.
              (2) A train covering a long distance between Nagercoil and Mumbai did not have a pantry car.
              (3) TTR was very generous allowing all vendors / beggars in the compartment.

                hello sir...
As a citizen of india i would to bring to your kind notice an incident which happened early in the morning setting off a mood off tone for the whole day.I had to travel to Guindy from St.Thomas Mount in a local train in Chennai.Calculating the rush present at all hours at the ticket counter i have purchased a SMART CARD for my family. On Sunday my daughter had to attend an Competitive exam and early morning to avoid the rush i swiped my card for ticket. Once the transaction was over my amount of Rs.8/- was deducted but the ticket didnt print. When questioned about the railway authorities people in the ticket booking counter gave a very irresponsible response. When i shouted at them in disgust of the happening they insulted me showing faces and using a false slang. When asked for refunding of the money or issuing another ticket in place of the money i have lost because of the smart card they denied as well people inside came out and switched off the machine. They very carelessly said i[censored] have any grievances just inform the station master we will see to it. when informed the station master also gave a very cold response.I again purchased a return ticket standing in the queue to attend the exam. There was no proper response as well i request the railway authorities to refund the money to my account. If there is a proper response then i would wish to submit my smart card number privatley in mail.Thank you,.waiting for the complaint to be attended.

This morning I used my Smart Card SR 0146235 the ATVM Kiosk, East Tambaram Railway Station. After making my selection for a Beach Return ticket the machine and gong through the entire procedure, the machine deducted Rs. 20 but did not dispense the ticket!
In the meanwhile a person who facilitate at the kiosk arrived and used the same card at the 2nd machine installed there and generated the ticket. As this was a fresh transaction an additional Rs. 20 was deducted from my account. I was frustrated but could not complain to anyone and moreover I was in a hurry.
In the evening when I tried to get a ticket from Egmore to Beach Jn. using an ATVM at Egmore Railway station the same incident was repeated and I had to stand in the queue to get my ticket. In the process I lost Rs. 25 from my card!

When I informed the ticket issuing clerk about this incident, I got a big broad smile and asked me to lodge a complaint. The cost of the smile was Rs. 25!!

                  Respected Sir/Madam,

I had travelled from ahmedabad to chennai (reached chennai 06 Nov 09). Upon boarding the train i had asked the TTE as to whether the luggage i was carrying was within the prescribed limits and he confirmed on the positive side, but upon reaching chennai i was in for a shock as i was asked to pay a fine of Rs 600 for carrying excessive luggage. Now the queries i have are

                  1. Where is it mentioned in the ticket that i have a measure of the luggage that i can carry ,in this case it was an e-ticket ? (where mentioning this so called rule is probably the easiest.)

                  2. Incase we should have been aware of this rule why wasnt i informed this before boarding the train by the TTE ?

                  3. Horrible explanation by the examiner in chennai .Guess the person has no answers to queries i put across and in my opinion not suitable for that post .
E.g. The examiner cooly says that he has a target for Rs.50000 per month to cover which defines the horrible state of affairs in the railways.

4 . The million dollar question . will these queries be addressed at all ??

Thanks in advance hoping that i might get a answer to these queries .

                  Regards

I am coming from Tiruvallur to guindy for the last 15 years. Because of the over crowd I have purchased First class season ticket it is cost of Rs.750/- (4 times of normal season ticket). But I am getting any seat even not freely movable in first class for the route between tiruvallur to chennai.

Because of in peak hours lot of railway working officials/school childern are entering in first class without valid season ticket/ticket.

Daily you are running one train between chennai to tirupathi @ 0710 Hrs. But in first class we will not any seat as 95% of the board passengers are not having valid ticket. You are posting daily police in this train. But they are helpless for passengers. Kindly do the regular checking at this route to enable first class holders can travel easily.

This is happening in all trains coming from AJJ to MAS/ MSB and vice versa.Especially EMU Fasts like AM8 F/AM10 F/AB4 F/181F/185F/189F(Most intolerable train). During the peak timing (i.e) from 7.30 AM to 9.00 AM and 6.00 PM to 7.30 PM - when the ticket checkers are not resuming their duties and people are thus taking them as granted and travel in any compartment as they please .

This can be regularized by proper checking and frequent checking from ticket examiners at the trains and as well as in stations .(This is being done in Beach-Tambaram sector very well ).

I request your kind co-operation to send the Railways Authorities to check the First Class Compartment and control the misuse of the same.
We have already mailed you a week back on the same. there is no much change in the situation. we request you to kindly look into this
immediately and do the needful. Awaiting for your favarouble response.
dear sir i want this information, mst valid from train no 15035&15036 pls infom soon.

                      Sir,
i'm native of Nagercoil. On 15th January myself and my mother were traveling in Ananthapuri Express (Train No:6124, Coach:S5, Berth no:17, 22) which comes from Trivandrum. We booked ticket in ladies quota.
While we were getting into the train from Nagercoil we found our seats to be occupied by some others. We told them that it’s our seat so u please move. But they were not allowing us to sit in the seat. They asked us to move to another seat. We told its ladies quota and so we don’t want to move. Some other ladies also get in that coach. But they were asked to move. They moved to other seat as they don’t want to create any problem there. Two gents were seated there and they started teasing us.
TTE came to check tickets after the train crossed Tirunelveli. We thought as its ladies quota TTE will ask the gents to move from there. But he didn’t say anything to them. I called the TTE to ask him. But he went as he didn’t hear it. Till we reach Chennai that guys were teasing us and we suffered a lot.
My kind request is that to take action such that no gents to be allowed in ladies quota. Ladies quota is especially for ladies. So don’t allow gents to be seated there. Many o[censored]s will be going alone and for our safety we are booking ticket in ladies quota. If there is no safety for ladies in ladies quota, then why ladies quota?. Please take necessary action, such that no one should suffer like this hereafter.

I booked two online tickets to Tiruchirappalli in August 2009 in the sleeper class. The cost of the tickets was Rs.328/-. I could not carry any of the original identification cards due to certain personal reasons. But I produced the ticket, a xerox copy of my driving licence and the credit card which I used to book the ticket. But the ticket checker did not accept it and imposed a heavy penalty of Rs.828/- (i.e.) The cost of the ticket plus Rs.500/-. Despite my plea to him for this, he did not accept it.I felt really embarassed on that day. What is the use of buying tickets in advance when it is really difficult to get a ticket these days. What is the respect given to the passengers by the railway authorities? This has to be changed especially for people living away from their families who cannot have the originals all the time in their hand.
I reserved ticket for my son on 12th September 2010 in Thatkal scheme through Agent.
At the time of departure Thatkal Waiting list is 20. On that day no special birth coach attached. But a special coach with seating factility for Wait listed passengers. When i approached person responsible for this standing outside said that these coach is for waitlisted passengers, u can also board the train with penalty charges apart from normal birth fair. Totally Rs.532 charged and receipt issued to me son. In Madurai Junction lot o[censored]nreserved passengers entered and occupied seat and railway authority to control them. With great difficulty my son reached chennai. When I approached Station Master, Tuticorin, He irresponsibly answered that he is no way responsible and asked me to contact Madurai Station Master. I request the GM, Southern Railway to take necessary steps guard the passengers from cheating of local railway employees, by providing special birth coaches during special holidays and avoid inconvenience to passengers.

I happened to travel on Train No:6528 Kannur-Yeshwantpur express on 22nd September 2009 (PNR:[protected]). I boarded the train from Kozhikode station at 7.30 pm in Coach S3. My seat number was 0008 Side Upper berth Confirmed on an e-ticket bought from IRCTC.co.in.

As expected by any rail passenger, I was supposed to be seated at my designated seat. But I happened to see a briefcase which was chained & locked on to my seat. I set aside this briefcase next to my seat itself so that its owner could collect it when he/she is back. Apparently this belonged to the TT of that coach & when he noticed the same, started abusing, threatening & to the extend of putting me behind bars by complaining to the Railway police. When I objected to the fact that I was unaware that the briefcase belonged to him & in any case, I had neatly kept it beside my seat itself did not calm the TT. He took my ticket & again started abusing me. I was left wondering which clause in the Railway act mentions you are not supposed to be sitting in your seat & keep aside any luggage occupied on your designated seat.

During the course of the journey, there were many other passengers who had to bear the brunt of his rude behavior. Notable among that being he threatening a group of college students. The actual words used by him "You don't know my power, I can ensure I put you behind bars & railway cases are such that you will never get peace of mind in your lifetime". The TT finally got down at Palakkad station & it was a much sought relief after the terrorizing moments in my worst ever railway experience. In the era of customer service & consumer friendliness, these kind of behavior from TT are least expected & has to be promptly dealt with by the respective railway authorities. I hope some action is taken at the earliest.

I had travelled from Chennai to Madurai on September 21st, 2009 in Pandian Express. From about 1 AM, there was no power in the whole coach no S1 and all the people in the coach had a sleepless night. Especially the small kids were all so restless and crying that nobody in the compartment slept the whole night. There is also no safety of the people travelling in the coach as anything could have happened in the darkeness.
How come such an incident is allowed to happen and nobody cares to take any steps.
The people travelling in second class compartments are provided such poor services.
Some action should be taken on people responsible for this type of carelessness.

I've bought a ticket which is off-peak between london victoria and eastbourne two days ago.

Unfortunately, I didn't bring my debit card at the station.

One of your staff in victoria told me that I can refund a my ticket fee after I complained it.

The ticket fee is £23.90. There are some detail of ticket.

Southern Railway — Issuing tickets to the moving trains

Today (13/6/2009) i was standing on the queue for getting a ticket from Karur Junction to Tiruchirappalli Fort station. The actual departure timing of the Mangalore-Egmore Express 8.20 PM. But the growd was there. Only one person was issuing the tickets. When I got the ticket at 8.28 PM the train was moving. The nearest unreserved coach is only after 8 compartments. Before I moved 10 steps the train was moving very fast.

Why couldn't they stop the train till all the passengers boarded the train?

Why didn't they stop issuing tickets at least 2 or 3 minutes before the departuer of the Train?

When I asked the Station Master for the complaint book he directed me to enquire the Ticket clerks for their clarification ' as if he was a gentleman'

When I approached the clerks I was abused by them. They turned a blind eye and gave blunt reasons.

One Idea was that I should have taken risk and boarded the running train

Then the Gentleman Station Master did not give me the complaint book

                                        Where to go?

                                        HI
                                        hello vijay kumar here ..
i am from Bangalore my native place is Raichur, , there is no special train for DEWALI SPECIAL plz think about my request, ,

                                        vijay kumar
Yes, to travel during diwali time from bglr to madurai with 2 MINS, all the seats got booked for the travel date oct 15. And not only during festive time this happens. During saturday-sunday weekend will be closed very quickly.

As there are many people working bangalore from madurai/surrond areas its very much needed to introduce another train on daily basis.

It would be greatful if any special trains announced for diwali
I agree 100% to this. There should be more trains between Bangalore to Madurai. Even buses that ply between Bangalore to Madurai is very limited in comparison with other cities like Chennai and Coimbatore. But who listens to lesser mortals.
Please arrange one more special train from Chennai to Coimbatore.. this could help people who have not got any tickets until now... Hope authorities would do the needful...

                                        Thanks!

Southern Railway — AC in II AC not working from starting station

My PNR No.[protected]. Train No.0660. Journey Date:11.10.2009. Birth No.for self and wife A1/43 and 44. We boarded the train from Tiruchendur for Chennai. We noticed AC was not working from Tiruchendur and informed the coach AC Attendant on duty.We are told it will be rectified in Tirunelveli. But no rectification done. Coach Attendant telephoned to his higher authorities to take action to solve the AC failure problem either at Madurai. We are informed accordingly. At Madurai some AC Mechanics were attending the coach. In the course of time 45 minutes elapsed so the Madurai Station Manager, Mr. Jaganathan, was in a hurry to despatch the train as some trains were held up in the outter. AC failure still continued. All the passengers got suffocation and most of them moving around and standing near door to get some air atleast. We are one among them. Madurai Station Manager told the AC failure will be rectified in the next station. At 7.15 P.M. we reached Dindigul. Dindigul Station Manager told that he has received message but no mechanics available and so the AC failure will be attended at Erode. Now the train started from Dindigul going towards Erode. We do not know what will happen at Erode Station also. TTE informed us that the problem will be sold at Erode. TTE is also helpless. AC couch attendant also helpless. Who is responsible for such lapses. AC failure from the starting station itself. Paying huge amount with lot of inconvenience. Now due to heat all passengers are roaming here and there with suffocation. I am lodging the complaint while travelling from Dindigul to Erode portion. Minimum action to be taken against the operating staff who is careless in operating AC failed coach. Expecting reply.
I was expecting a special train in this route and now am highly disappointed. The crowd that travels in this route is very high and only one train is available.
Hope the railway authorities do necessary action.

There should absolutely be special trains between BLR to MDU. Currently there is only 1 train which is always full. Railway authorities please do the needful.

chengannur railway ticket counter — issue of wrong ticket

i took a sleeper ticket from chengannur to trichur in kerala express but when i showed it to t.t.r he said that the source and destination are swapped i.e it shows trichur to chengannur the date and time supports me but he didn't let me travel any more.

                                        Southern Railway — wrong ticket

asked for a ticket to trichur railway station from chegannur railway station on 9.9.10 for Kerala express at 13.23 pm and issued ticket from trichur to chengannur .In Hurry It was not noticed and got in the train. Southern Railway — late running of fast passenger train

                                        sir,

I happen to travel from puduchery to tambaram by train no 103 fast passenger on 21/10/2010. The train has to reach tambaram at 6.30pm. But it is unnecessarily stopped at olakur station for 45 minutes. This is not happening for the first time. I being a frequent traveller of this particular train, only one day this train arrived tambaram at 6.30pm. Even this is not a convenient train for our kind of people. It is the only train to chennai. i need to bring to your notice one thing, that is make this train to arrive at right time or revise the train timing at 20.00hrs from puduchery and make the arrival time by 3.30hours duration to reach tambaram. you belive it or not this train will be a good revenue for southern railways if the timing has changed to 20.00hrs daily. kindly do the needful and fulfill the dreams of the people.

                                        Regards,

                                        Mahendrajames,Chennai.
