Address: Thoothukudi, Tamil Nadu

I had booked my tickets between Thoothukudi and Chennai on Pearl City Express on 24th Dec 2011. I was travelling with my family (me, my wife, son & father/mother in laws). We travelled in Coach B3 (3AC) - seats 17, 18, 19 & 20.

When we boarded the coach and we were shocked to see the dilapidated condition of our coach. The shock & horror had just started.

1. The coach was unclean and cockroaches were roaming here and there.
2. While we had our sinner and were about to sleep, we used the bed sheets provided in the train.
3. While sleeping we felt, irritation and iching around the body and when checked were shocked to see bedbugs in the bedsheets.
4. We couldn't sleep the whole night due to constant iching over the body.
5. The problem was faced by many passengers travelling in the same coach.

But the discomfort and service we experienced during the journey hasn't been worth the ticket fare paid.

We would expect clean and comfortable travel for us while travelling in Railways.

Please take stringent actions so that people get proper service during train travel.

Please help us to provide clean, comfortable and good sanitary conditions during train travel.

The mental agony of this journey is going to linger a long time in my & my family's memory. Travelling by Indian Railways used to be every child's dream and I loved every journey of mine till date.

If there is some humanity left in any higher up of the Indian/Southern Railways reading this, I am sure they will take action and ensure no one ever faces this situation.

      Dear sir,
There are display boards for departure ,arrival timings and mainly platform number on foot over bridges. 60% of passengers reach station by local trains which are stop in last platform.

To know the platform number of train people have to come to platform 1 from last Platform by foot over bridge and again have to go to their respective platform after looking at the display board in platform 1.

Which is very inconvenient for elderly people and some times people missing train because of this.
There is a typo in the first line of complaint. It should be " There are no display boards".

This is regarding the undeclared demurrage imposed by the Southern Railway.
I sent my TVS Scooty as parcel from Erode station to Chennai central by Southern Railways on 27-Oct. 2011.
I was supposed to take the deliverry on next day (i.e.[protected].
But, due to my tight schedule, I was not able to take the delivery on the next day. But, I could come and take delivery only on Nov. 4, 2011.
I was shocked to hear that there was a demurrage of Rs. 1730 imposed for taking the delivery late.
But, there was no mention of such a demurrage on the backside of receipt which was generated at the time of booking.
When asked, I was told that it was notified on the board which was kept somewhere in the parcel office.
Either, the personnel at the booking office has informed of such a demurrage being imposed.
As a new user of such a service, how could I know such things?
I heard that many users has left their goods, because of huge demurrage being imposed?

                Respected Sir,

Sub:- Heavy crowd in First Class compartment - Arakkonam to Chennai 6:40 a.m. fast

I would like to submit my grievance with regards to ticket less travelers in First Class compartment. I am traveling daily from Thiruvallur to Chennai central in "Arakkonam to Chennai 6:40 a.m. fast".

Day by day the crowd is increasing in the first class compartment, these are the following reasons..

                1. Second class and ticket less travelers are more in number. Most of the second class Railway staff are traveling with the whole family in this compartment by occupying the seats.
                2. Government staffs, especially Police departments staffs are traveling without tickets. I don't know who gave the rights for them to travel in first class compartment without tickets.
                3. The first class compartment is very small in size which has only 4 seats and no where it is affordable for today's travelers volume.
                4. TTE's never ever checking the back and front first class compartments. If they come they will move with a salute from the second class travelers and with the known people.

Everyday it is packed with crowd, if the TTE's come for regular checkup then there the ticket less travelers may have the fear of entering First class. First class is the safest place for all the ticket less travelers.

I Kindly request the officials of arrange prompt & frequent checking without moving with the salute in between Arakkonam - Chennai then most of the eligible passengers can travel comfortably.

We hope you will do the needful at the earliest.

                Thanking you,

                Your faithfully,

                  Sir,

I have bought a Smart card in Southern Railway. I travel few times a week in train and hence have bought the Smart card. But to my utter dismay, the Smart card from St. Thomas Mount railway station is not working most of the time. I have complained about this to the Station Master at St. Thomas Mount several times. I have also written a complaint in the COmplaint Register in July 2011, but the Smart card machine is not working there.

Since the machine is not working, we need to stand in the long queue to get ticket. Then what is the point in having such machines? It is because of this reason that the Smart card ticket machine is not popular.

                  Kindly take suitable remedial measures,

                  Thanks

                    Sir,

Please be informed that, on 13th October 2011, I have booked Train reservation e-ticket thru' IRCTC vide PNR No.[protected] from Mysore Junction to Bangalore city (SBC) and the details are given here below.

                    TRAIN No. & NAME : 56213 / Tirupati Passenger
                    DATE OF JOURNEY : 16th October 2011
                    No. of PASSENGERS : 02
                    COACH No. : S3
BERTH DETAILS : 65 & 68 (Both are Lower berths)

NAME OF THE PASSENGERS : a) NARASIMHA MURTHY
                    b) HEMALATHA N K

On the date of journey, I have arrived at Mysore Railway station and the train arrived from Chamarajanagar at 1645 hours. There was lot of crowd and by the time I got into the train, somebody occupied our reserved seats. When we told them to vacate our reserved seats, it was told to us to complain to anybody, they will not going to vacate the seats. When I personally met Railway police force constable to help us out to get our seats, it was conveyed to us to contact the concerned TT. When I checked about TT, TT was present in S1 coach and he was not in a position to help us out. The people were using filthy lauguage to us and either people or TT, not at all co-operating. Since, the departure time is at 1700 hours, and there was no time left with us to address this issue with the concerned, we travelled in the same train, like general ticket holders and there was no space in the compartment, even to stand. Even there was no basic infrastructure in the coach. There was no light and fan. Since, my wife is a cancer patient, she was not in a position to breath also. Such an environment created inside the compartment. At Maddur, about 1900 hours, somebody pulled chain to drag the attention of the concerned that there is no light in the compartment. Afterwards, the emergency light were lit up and no fan service available. We were forced to travel in that train by standing till Bangalore City junction. No body came for our rescue. If this is the scene for reserved passengers, imagine about unreserved passengers. No TT has visited our compartment. You can very well check with other passengers, who has got reserved tickets like me and their situation is also, same as mine.

Even though, I was having valid reserved ticket, I am unable to make use of my reservation and now, i do not know to whom I need to complain in this regard.

Hence, I am requesting you to please take it up with the concerned and make good of the losses with due compensation, for the inconvenience we faced.

Hope my request will be addressed favourably.
                    Thanks and regards,

I had booked my tickets between Coimbatore and Chennai on Duronto Express on 8th October 2011. I was travelling with my family (me, my wife, son & daughter). We travelled in Coach# C3 - seats 46, 47, 48 & 49. This is supposed to be a prestigious non-stop train of the Indian Railways.

When I boarded the coach I was shocked to see the dilapidated condition of our coach. The shock & horror had just started.

                      1. The coach was unclean to begin with. No cleaning was done prior to our boarding, leaving garbage everywhere in the coach - floors, front pouches, next to arm rests, in between seats.
                      2. Food was arranged on the floor before it was being served to the passengers. I saw two sets of spoons (plastic & tied by rubber band) on the floor. Once food was served, these were gone. Not sure who were served these spoons.
                      3. Food Warmer. I will let my photo speak themselves. Once the food was served and food warmer switched off, this machine was teeming with cockroaches.
                      4. Cockroaches were everywhere - floors, toilets, windows, curtains, seats, armrests!!! :-( EVERYWHERE
                      5. When dinner was served the cockroaches came in their hundreds and swamped the area. My daughter and son refused to have food seeing the cockroaches running right next to the food. I am sure beggars in some cities would have a dignified meal. This was the way Indian a.k.a Southern Railways is treating is Full Fare Paying Passenger in the MOST PRESTIGIOUS TRAIN. Finally both my kids went hungry. No parent would like to see this.
                      6. When my daughter saw cockroaches on the seat & armrests, she refused to sit in the seat and was standing for more than 90 mins.
                      7. There were quite a few kids in our coach, including babies and I shudder to think of the repercussions of a pest bite on them.

All these (especially when my kids refused food and went hungry) made me furious and I called in the Travelling Ticket Examiner (TTE) of my coach C3. While he (Mr. Salim) pleaded his inability to help, he asked me to file a written complaint. Off we walked almost 9+ coaches to find that the Guard Room (where the Complaint Register is kept) is inaccessible. I also learnt that there is no Train Superintendent which used to be the case earlier. Finally the TTE gave me a blank paper and asked me to file a written complaint. On seeing my plight, other passengers joined in to sign my complaint. I have handed over the complaint in the sincere hope that it will reach the concerned authorities.

The mental agony of this journey is going to linger a long time in my & my family's memory. My daughter is already scared and is refusing to travel by train. Travelling by Indian Railways used to be every child's dream and I loved every journey of mine till date.

If there is some humanity left in any higher up of the Indian/Southern Railways reading this, I am sure they will take action and ensure no one ever faces this situation.

Past one month the above trains are arrived at karur junction more than 30 to 45 minutes late in most of days. These trains are utilised by most of employees working at central and state government officers and workers in companies. They cannot attend their office, company within the time. So they are suffered healthy and mentally. Hence kindly advice to the concern authorities to take necessary action at the earliest

What is the use of getting the first class ticket? I'm having the first class season from Maraimalainagar - Nungambakam, spending 550 / month. I have seen many ticket checkers in the Beach - Tambaram route (Only on Tam trains). But never ever seen the ticket checks in the Tambaram - Chengulpet route. I'm travelling for the past 3 years in train with the first class season, during these 3 years I never got checked by the ticket checkers in the First class, especially during the peak hours (after 6PM). Get the Beach - Timrumalpur train which arrives on 19.30PM at Mambalam station, get in the first class compartment and check for the tickets. You will definitely find that 30% of second class persons traveling in the second class. Get the same train in tambaram, you will find 50% of them traveling. We - the first class persons told them to get down of train, but they never hear our speech since they know very well the ticket checkers wont come after Tambaram station towards chengulpet. Another problem is that the railway staffs who doesn't have eligibility to sit and travel in first class, getting the train in beach and egmore and filling up most of the seats. Due to that many first class season takers like me, who spend such a lot money (when comparing to second class) standing and traveling upto urappakkam or even guduvanchery. This is not happening on 1 or 2 days. It's happening on all the working days. Can the department take necessary action?

Though the complaint has been marked as resolved, this problem continues to exist in all suburban trains. Most of the seats are occupied by railway staffs who are ineligible to travel by first class and also Tamil nadu state police who travel right royally in first class without proper tickets (do they even have tickets?). Railway checking staffs do not ask them ( ineligible railway staff and police) to show their tickets, instead only check tickets of regular trsvellers who have season tickets. They are also not polite when asking for tickets. Why no action is being tsken in spite of repeated complaints?.

I have been using the smart card issued by the Southern Railways. The card was due for renewal in June 2011. The Tambaram Sanatorium Railways Station which is the nearest railway station to my house does not have the facility for recharging the smart card. Since I did not get time to recharge the card in some other station, the smart card got expired last month (June 2011). When I went for recharge of the card in Kodambakkam as well as Chromepet Railway Station, I was informed that since the card got expired last month, refund is not possible. I informed the concerned official that on last occasion, I got refund (excluding the discount amount the Railways are offering) and that I subsequently got a new card, the official said it could not be possible.

My expired card has a balance of Rs.150/-. I wish get a new card for the balance amount of Rs.150/-.

                                Kindly guide me.

                                Thanking you,

We have an Apartment in V.M. Meadows, Horamavu, next to the railway line and at the Horamavu Railway Crossing Junction. We have guests from Japan living in the corner apartment W106 facing the track. They also live in a similarly located home in Japan but do not face the terrible noise pollution that they face here. the noise is created not only by the speeding rattling train but more seriously by the train's hoot, especially while passing by the area. this is a densely populated residential area with many blood pressure and heart patients, the Railway authorities must contain the noise pollution to the minimum. Noise pollution from trains is really high in the city. Train drivers seem to adopt a highly defensive policy and use the really loud horns from a good distance before a railway crossing and well after crossing it as well. It should be a trivial matter to implement a trip-switch on the tracks that sets off a hooter at the level crossing, rather than having the train horn alarm everyone in a radius of a kilometre or more.

                                      Dear Sir,
Good Day!!!!. This is Prabhu, From Arakkonam (AJJ). I hereby bring to your kind information that the Functioning of Ticket Checking in First Class Compartments in the EMU trains in AJJ trains is very very poor.
Im a First Class Season Ticket holder (For the Past 2 Years). Daily I travel from AJJ to AVADI by the EMU train at AJJ at 6.50 AM. In this train, most of the travellers are second class season ticket holders and ineligible (No FC eligibility) railway employees. The same happens when I travel from AVADI to AJJ by the EMU train (At AVD 4:40 PM).
Particulary Between AJJ and TRL, the rule violation is at the maximum.

I request you to kindly take actions against the TTEs who are not performing their duties and pls help your valuable customers to travel comfortably.

I hope my request would be fulfilled by your gracious attention.

                                      Thank U.....

                                        sir,

I am traveling in train from thalassery to mangalore two or three times in a weak and return for business deals.
During my return journey to thalassery, I noticed several times that the ticket examiners in reservation compartments from mangalore shifting their duty at kannur ( official duty shiftng). but after their duty time, some of them travel in the same compartment for their native place ( I assume). they come with normal dress( without uniform) and asking for money from passengers who approached them for ticket upgrading or other services. They are collecting money without receipts and some TTs getting down at stations like thalassery, vadakara and calicut.

I think these unofficial practices of ticket examiners ( 2- 3 TTs) from Kannur to their destination must be stopped . this is not a good practice and is a social matter. They are getting high salary and these kind of things should not be repeated.

please inform about this complaint to Railway manager at palakkad division and kannur station in charge for necessary action.
