We (Dr ekta arora, my husband, my mother and a four month old baby) planned to do home shifting through apml from gautam nagar, new delhi to greater noida as we had heard it is one of the most reputed movers & packers, but unfortunately our decision turned into a nightmare. On 12th march 2019, we contacted apml and mr bachan singh paid a visit to our place for survey and gave us an estimate.
So on 12th april 2019 we again contacted apml and mr bachan singh gave us a revised estimate. He said he can do the shifting on 13th april and quotation of 23000 including insurance was told to us. Mr bachan only suggested us to do insurance of 1 lakh as majority of the people insure in the same range when relocating nearby. He told us that they would start packing early morning (13th april 2019) so that we are able to cross the border before 5 pm as after that it is ‘no entry’ for heavy vehicles.
We told that we do not want to take any risk so you can do packing on one day and we can leave for greater noida the very next day. He laughed and said we are apml we will complete packing in 4 to 5 hours and will leave for greater noida. We believed him as apml is a brand name.
Finally, we were assured that packing, delivery and unpacking would be possible on the same day. Regarding payment, he was very rude and adamant on the fact that they need full payment at the time of loading instead of at the time of delivery.
On 13th april 2019, mr kashinath with his team of 4 people came. The packing started around 9:30 am. To begin with packing seemed fine but as the time passed i could sense that everything is turning chaotic.
Regarding packing of fragile items we told them that it seems it requires an extra layer of protection but mr kashinath replied they better know their job & we need not worry. After 12 pm the packing was chaotic; it was actually not packing but dumping the stuff in the cartons.
While packing heat radiator, since it was not fitting properly in its box we told them to open its wheels (Since they were detachable) & then pack but he replied that it would consume a lot of time and finally it was packed with wheels. Tv trolleys again no screws were unscrewed and were packed as such.
We had 2 single beds with boxes which were stacked up completely with stuff. None of the bed boxes were emptied and packed as such. We told them it would make the beds so heavy & difficult to move & hence vulnerable to scratches & damage.
Tables were packed without dismantling as they told, “hamian kya hai aap he fas jaoge, paanch bhaje se pehle border cross karna hai”
Stuff was packed right and left.
No lunch break or rest was taken, they were tired but still packing whatever was coming their way, as they were not able to meet their deadline of packing.
They got a 14 feet vehicle/container for loading. As we could assess the capacity of the truck seemed less against the items which had to be loaded. I told them do you think it is sufficient, don’t you have a bigger truck. This was again followed by a laugh, we are apml.
Ultimately, items were stacked one on top of other in the truck. We could not keep a track of all cartons as some of them were not even numbered. The driver of the truck was also of the same opinion that the truck is small as compared to the items and overloading is being done. Heavy items like furniture was kept on the bottom and cartons, lugguage bags & other stuff were piled one on top of other. Seeing this, i again insisted for a bigger vehicle but they were adamant as most of the loading was done.
Loading was completed by 4:20 pm making us wonder how the truck would cross the toll/border in 30 minutes. Hastily, i was made to pay 23000 in cash with my 2 photographs and a copy of aadhar card. The truck finally left around 4:30 pm. The payment was paid vide mr no.:mrdl[protected].
It was very surprising to know that there was no other person accompanying the truck driver. This made me more anxious and i requested my husband (Dr atul sharma) to accompany the truck to which he agreed. We left just at the nick of time at 4:30 pm, and this was followed by rash driving as we had to cross border before 5 pm. The truck driver being aware of this followed an unusual route.
At around 5: 00 pm near batla house, new delhi the vehicle was stopped by traffic police and was fined (Challan) (Truck no dl 1l x1043) for overloading. So there was a further delay to cross the toll. When communicated this to traffic police personel we came to know that since it’s a gazetted holiday on 13.4.19 on the eve of baisakhi there are no such traffic restrictions for heavy vehicles. On hearing this we breathed a sigh of relief.
As the truck crossed batla house passersby stopped our vehicle and told that some items are falling from the back of truck and people are carrying them away. We stopped the truck on the road side and had a look. The rope was loosened and the tarpaal was torn.
I tried to locate anyone with my items but was unable to find my stuff.
My husband and driver tied the rope again and managed. There was no one else with the driver to help him. My husband dropped message to kashinath and bachan singh however they didn’t replied. My husband called bachan singh and took kashinath online. My husband told about the incident that happened but kashinath said, ‘’ humne to theek he packing ki thi agar saaman gir raha hai to issme hamaara kya kassoor hai ”on our way to greater noida (Next 1.5 hours) we stopped our vehicle/truck several times to check if everything is fine. This was such a horrible experience.
Finally, the truck arrived greater noida on[protected] around 7 pm. We thought the nightmare is over but more had to come. We had to wait for one and a half hour for the unpacking team to come. As the tarpaal of the truck was uncovered the unpacking team was surprised to see the condition of the container. As they started unloading, the cartons started giving way and our stuff was on the floor of the truck. So they had to be very careful to prevent further damage.
Brass table was twisted, it was no more in level with the ground, edges of thetv trolley was broken, tube lights were broken. Our suitcases and bags were missing.
We were completely frustrated to see our stuff.
I contacted up100 police at around 7:15 pm and complained regarding the negligence and stolen luggage (Event id p[protected]). The truck driver admitted in front of police personnel that since somebody (Dr atul sharma) was accompanying him otherwise he would have been blamed for missing items (Theft). The incharge talked to mr bachan & senior official mr anand. Since the next day was sunday he assured a site visit would be carried on and there will be resolution of our problem on monday. Many mondays have passed since then but we have not been contacted by him.
Their automatic feedback forms were filled twice regarding the horrific services and ticket ids were created.in one of the complaint the reply was customer care team will contact you but nobody contacted us.
Ticket id 83381 gcphg[protected] with subject ‘delivery feedback’ on 15th april at 6:01 pm
Ticket id 84459 with subject ‘lapse in services’ on 17th april 4:30 a. M
We lodged a complaint with delhi police as well and registered complaint on their website too. (Lr no: 948493/2019 date[protected]
A call was received from mobile no: [protected] and we were told to provide pictures of damage. We did the same however no action was taken despite giving repeated reminders.
All this has happened by sheer negligence on the part of apml.
The lost lugguage not only includes valuables but other items which cannot be bought again and have emotional significance. I still wonder if my husband would not have accompanied the truck i would not have even known that my items had fallen from the truck and stolen.
We demand compensation not only for our valuables but also for the mental torture me and my family had to bear because of this. This is high time that apml learns a lesson and other people are not befooled.
