On 16September 2021 afternoon, My airtel India sim stopped working suddenly. Its been 9 months since I started living in Tokyo, Japan and the network was working just fine. I had done all the essential recharges and kept it active. But on 16th, all of a sudden, the SIM stopped working without any intimation.
I used the airtel app to solve the problem initially but it suggested me to contact the customer support. Unable to call back Indian customer support(Sim not functioning) I tried Airtel's website to raise a complaint. But the website was equally not helpful and suggested me the same.
I then had to get in touch with aitel via their Twitter handle on 17thSeptember 2021, and after repeated tagged tweets, requests and Direct messages, they finally responded on 18th asking for the number.
I gave the necessary details and told them that I live in Tokyo, Japan, and also that all my bank and other essential accounts are attached to this number, so now without the number being active, I'm unable to receive OTPs and hence unable to access my accounts and do other essential works back home like paying electricity bills, Rent, send money to family etc. I requested them to help me quickly.
They came back with a suggestion to manually connect to networks that are provided in USA. Unable to understand their suggestion I reminded them that I live in Japan not USA. They later asked me to latch on to one of the two network providers in Japan. I tried both and the the Sim did not latch on to any of them. The sim also failed to setup a APN manually or take it automatically from any network provider.
Based on suggestion I checked my phone with other SIM's and my SIM on other Mobiles. My mobile was working fine with other sim's and my SIM although recognized as a SIM in other mobile(which it was not happening in my mobile), did not connect to any network and after few attempts to connect to the different networks, the SIM stopped offering me the list of network available even.
Now this happened on 18Sep2021 and since then, the Airtel support, Via Twitter messages were only repeating the same suggestions time and again, despite me telling them repeatedly that it was not working.
Its 27th September2021, 10+days from the day the problem occurred and yet Airtel have been very reluctant in helping me solve the issue or even give a sensible solution. They never come back with a solution proactively either and need repeated reminders to even respond; and when they do, they respond with the same message repeatedly to latch on to a network. I have been telling them that the mobile has stopped detecting any network even, but they does not seem to understand.
I'm not in a position to come back to India for a sim card leaving my work here. Nor can I wait for eternity to make my sim work. I need to access my bank accounts back in India and also many other essential services urgently but the network does not seem to be helpful at all.
I'm struck in a foreign land, cut off from India, especially my financials due to this issue. And scarily, because my SIM does not work, I'm unable to know if my bank account is being used by any miscreants. Even my investments are on hold because of this issue.
I have been a loyal customer of Airtel for more than a decade and the trust I placed in their network is wearing out. Now I'm scared of all the details I shared with them too. So I wish to hold Aitel responsible for any financial misuse if it happens, or any other issues with regards to delay in bill payments and/disconnection of services in India and wish to get my sim and also complete settlement of all related Issues.
I believe with perfectly working Mobile and untouched SIM, there is no other way that a sim could stop working suddenly, unless done deliberately.
And if this is how the network supports its expat customers, then how could we trust them and come abroad from our home? forget work, but even for a trip? They can disconnect us from any place anytime and we would be left stranded in a unknown country without a means to contact and inform anyone.
I want my Sim working back, if they can't do it, I expect a new Sim to be delivered to my Home here, or at the least provide me an Esim, which could be used on my mobile. I need this issues resolved as early as It can be, as it has halted many essential transactions. Especially due to the services o[censored]sing OTPs to access multiple accounts.

I'm attaching my entire conversation with the airtel support below. I can attach the tagged tweets or app responses if required. (FYI, The Airtel app does not even have an option for SIM not working scenarios).

      Hi,
      I have two digital TV connections at different address under the same customer ID([protected])
      When i top up, it is automatically topping up both the connections and it is creating confusion to me.
      So i requested customer care to split my connections and assign separate ID for each connection.
      After repeated calls of my request, they messaged me new ID:[[protected]].
      But they didn't activate it. and newly created customer id showing split account amount 310Rs.

      I have called and begged customer care to resolve it several times but no use and they always say same dialogue "It will be done in 24 hours".
      I fed up and i don't know what to do ?
      Please resolve this issue. If they can't do it they should let me know.

          My Airtel payments bank has been compromised from a long time and I have been trying to follow up with the payments bank team over email for this. It has been more than 2 months now that they have been strolling over this and have not yet resolved this. I do not understand how this can be accepted with something related to a payment bank which should be dealt with high high attention

            i registered a complaint on 15 September and its haven't been resolved till now. On asking disconnection and refund of my left valid amount they keep on cancelling my call and neither they providing validity extension for these days lost. Neither they disconnecting their service and providing me refund nor they are fixing the issue .my recharged amount is going waste. Please help

              The amount 4386.64 was debited from my bank account no. having Customer ID: 70353542 on date 13.08.2021 for the purpose of railway ticket booking. The mode of payment used was BHIM UPI. After automatic cancellation of ticket by IRCTC due to booking get failed a refund has been initiated by irctc.
              The refund transaction details as provided by irctc are given below:
              Refund transaction id - [protected]
              Refund date : 13.08.2021
              Refund status : refunded
              Refund amount : 4295.40 rs.
              Amount credited to bank with reference no. :[protected]
              The refund amount is not yet credited to my bank account kindly do the needful.

                I had a few pre-sales queries and hence I called the Airtel DTH customer care. I thought when I select the option for a new connection, I will get a chance to talk to the customer care. However all they do is for new connection enter your pin code. That's it after that the call hangs up.

                While this is Okay, it would have been better had there been an option to also talk to the customer care.
                I request Airtel to provide that option to allow prospective customers to talk to the representative.

                      I'm complaining about no network connection in my village.in my village very tough to get network signal, we are climbing hills, trees to get network connection. Some times we are getting the signal outside of our homes that only 2g signals even that also not connecting properly, voice breaking, signal drops like this we are facing so much problem. If some one gone to hospital to neighbor city its very critical to get his status. So please its my humble request on behalf of my village members, please install the network in my village. Whatever support you required we will provide you. We want network installation.

                        We are fed up of airtel services. It's almost one and a half year that we have not recevied paper bills. Every month we contact airtel customer care but there is no response from them. They only say that you will receive the bill shortly. Please deliver us the bills asap.

                            I was using one mobile number from year 2010 with my one of work mate ID Because those times in Maharastra state the refused to give sim card of other state ID Proof then i requested one of my company mate and he helped to me with getting new sim card & it was BSNL number then i ported in Airtel. I am working in aboroad & i was doing recharge every month to be remain activated sim card & same number i used in my bank account, Pan card, AAdhar card.Lic Policy and many more account suddenly one day my sim card stopped working then i contacated some of my family members to check with Airtel care but did not get help from Airtel. Can i get help from you regarding problem.

                              My number is registered with Airtel mobile service provider. They have sent me the bill of Rs. 5582.58 for the month of August 2021. They have charged us for ISD calling services which we haven’t used for the said month. I feel that someone has hacked the sim of mobile number [protected] to make ISD calls all over the world. My father is a retire person and doesn’t even make a STD call. My father’s number is an add-on number on my family plan of Airtel. Airtel isn’t helping out to resolve this issue thus I want cybercrime department to investigate the matter as soon as possible as within two days I had got the bill of additional Rs. 2000 and more for not making any ISD calls. Thus, I have disconnected the services on my father’s number. And Airtel has barred our outgoing services stating non-payment of the bill.

                                I get multiple calls a day for bank and car loans, I have made all attempts to ask these people to stop calling, but to no avail. Finally I registered a complaint with Airtel, but no matter what I do - I get a message from them that they can not find the call to my number and close the complaint. Here is the message I get from Airtel -

                                Hi, while investigating for the Service Request No.[protected] related to DND issue on your Airtel number, we couldn't find the call/SMS records for reported content for shared date. Hence, no action has been taken against the sender. If you are not satisfied with the resolution, contact 198/appellate to raise an appeal.

                                Looks like airtel is in Hand and Glove with some of these operators.

                                      Hello consumer support,

                                      I had recharged my Airtel number +91 [protected] via net banking through the Airtel Thanks App (Order Id:[protected]. I had used my ICICI BANK NRI account to make the said payment of Rs.558/-. The transaction had been successfully processed from the bank on the 1st Sept 2021, and the amount has been debited. We had raised a query regarding the same to the customer care executive on the above mentioned transaction not been successful.

                                      As a normal procedure we did give it a lead time to wait for 7 working days hoping the amount would reflect back to the account. But unfortunately it's been around 20 days and we had not received any positive response from the either side.

                                      The bank has mentioned the confirmation mail from airtel that amount not received.

                                      I emailed Airtel on 21st sep 2021 [protected]@in.airtel.com.
                                      No reply from airtel.

                                      Also enclosing for your reference, the transaction confirmation message and bank statement.

                                      Hoping for a positive and a quick revert.
