Airtel - Blackberry Bold — AIRTEL IS A CHEATING

Perdon my expression in the subject line. But that is 100% true. Here's why ...

I got AIRTEL service connected 2 weeks back, Prepaid. Having a Blackberry, I wanted to use emails and SMS. Hence when I asked the guy in the counter, he provided me with the Rs. 498/- internet service package. That was the only package provided in the flyer he showed me which is something to do with internet. The person in the counter told me that this is the package service I have to buy to get emails and SMS. I was also told it would take 2 days (48 hours) to activate this package. 4-5 days passed and nothing happens. I talked to the customer service at Airtel (phone). They took a day to find out that I have to visit a local Airtel office to setup my Blackberry enabling emails and SMS. I went to the Local Blackberry Airtel service counter and below is the conversation ..

Purba - Can you please setup my Blackberry to get SMS and Email?

Service Rep - What service you bought?

Purba - Internet Package Rs. 498/-

Service Rep - Did you buy Blackberry Service Also?

Purba - I was not told, Ok I am ready to buy, will that help me to use Rs. 498/-?

Service Rep - No, it will not because Blackberry Service cannot use Prepaid Amounts.

Purba - then what happens to that Rs.498/- I already paid?

Service Rep - I am extremely SORRY mam, its GONE !!! You should have got the connection from us. Why do not you buy a new handset from us?

Purba - what do you mean? How do I know I have to buy the blackberry service from a specfic counter at kolkata? Is this the way you handle customer?

*** NO ANSWER ****

I then called the customer service at Airtel again, but heard only one statement ... " The money is already with the SIM, we cannot HELP, SORRY ..."

SO BEWARE WHEN YOU BUY ANYTHING FROM AIRTEL

I am a NRI, and I will also make sure all NRI gets this message.

Airtel and all other sucks. Only thing which works in this country is BSNL.
Great service at very low price. Although the service is slow and requires a lot of paperwork but if you are ready to through through the initial hell, its a breeze and worth it.

Even works in Pakka Sarna, Rajasthan.

I recommend BSNL for every NRI.
airtel has blackberry prepaid option of 299, u need not buy the 498 package as the people in local shops do not know about blackberry at all...
u can try searching for airtel blackberry plan from airtel website searching 9on net.
currentkly the prepaid blackberry plan for email and chat is down... i use an unlocked version of blackberry 8300 of vodafone with airtel prepaiud account.

i did use the email and chat plan for 1 month, when i spoke to customer service, i was toild that there are server issues ..ccounts getting the personal email, chat plan ffor blackberry...

airtel does not sell email abnd chat plans for blackberry prepaid in open market.
You mention that you have a blackberry - if so, how come you were not aware that the Blackberry Services It is the shop owner, who has taken for you for a Royal Ride.Agreed that Airtel service sucks in many parts. But in this instance you only have yourself to blame. Do take it up with the shop owner, and next time do take time to do some research ( you have the time to type a complaint - u can use that time to read up on the internet too :) )

Yes, Airtel is cheating and I am experiencing trauma w whatever services I am choosing from it.First landline trauma and now this blackberry trauma..They still have some issues w Airtel Prepaid activation w blackberry and no ETA is there..They should have stopped taking new activations if they know there server is having problems.Yesterday only I subscribed 899 unlimited plan and the situation is same..They are saying we are not aware of timing when this problem will get resolved.1000s of customer on prepaid plan are stuck and cannot use the email and other services on blackberry. This is perfect case for dragging Sunil Mittal to consumer court.If someone like me is there we can club together all things and file a consumer case against airtel.Please contact me on my email id.

Did u send the sms to activate the bb plan. The whole process is automated and it took me less than 10 miins to activate on 2 blackberries. Do call 7070 from your blackberry phone for support/complaints on blackberry service. They should be able to guide you.
