[Resolved]  Airtel — Airtel Broadband download discrepancy

I have been using the Airtel Broadband services for about 6 months now. Recently, I had got my plan changed to 2GB download limit, 512 KBPS to 4GB download limit and 4 MBPS. After doing this, they calculated my bill for the present month using the pro-rata basis (as they say). Now they have messed with the amount of download and upload I did during my usage. The explanation they the technical deptt gave me was that I had downloaded more than 7GBs and each extra GB costs to about Rs 1000!!! So, my bill comes to whooping Rs 6746 now, instead of Rs 1000.
I am using the softwares which record the amount of download and upload I do whenever I start my connection. The actual usage I see is about 4.8 GB. Now they are not accepting and giving their own false explanations.
I know that Airtel is pretty bad in the regard and they are at the top in doing the discrepancies in the billing (you can very well see from this forum, "Stay away Airtel (2252)"). I have my friends who have gone through a lot of pain, but it came with me this time. I plan to get this connection disconnected and go for some other service provider. I would recommend everyone never to buy any Airtel service.
But I would anyway get this settled, either with them, or legal!

airtel broadboand — discrepancy in bill

I have been using Airtel broadband for a year now. Bandwidth of 256 Kbps. This month I have received a bill of 3063 for broadband usage. And out of those Rs 3063, Rs 1578 have been charged in a single day and for around 4 hrs. At the specified time I was not at home but was at my work place and my system was not on.


When I called up customer care, they say they can’t help, as the line is very secure and no one else can use it in my absence and I will have to pay the bill.

Is there anything I can do about this? Is there a legal way out? And how can I prove that my computer was off at the specified time.

Please help.

I have similar kind of problem.. what is pro rata basis calculation??? whatever it sucks ... and also Airtel customer care department too.. They hide the things and suck badly and the perfect example is me myself...shocking bills, which i will never pay by any means.

On 3rd june, 2009, my airtel broadband connection plan rs 749, 2mbps and 4GB limited plan has been activated. After using for around 10 days when I saw the usage is around 2 gb and the amount of bill is around 1400 rs. as I was aware of the fact that airtel makes false bills so I was prepared and discussed everything before implementing any thing.. so I had the setup email id with airtel from wher I used to get the infos on DSL and Phone usages and amount.


As my requirement is very high so I wanted to have the unlimited plan and so I called 121 and talked to one of the customer care representatives. He informed me about the three unlimited plans and I choosed the 649 plan. Then, I clearly asked him, If i get migrated to new plan what will be the charges will be levid for the usage of the current plan. He told me as you are with the plan 749 rs, 4 gb plan... you will have to pay 749 rupees for 4 GB usages.. and i[censored] exceed the amount then u need to pay the extra amount only for extra usage. Also after migration I got a call from the airtel depertment and they informed me the previous plan charges will be zero..as you have migrated to this plan...and the charges will be made on the new plan from now onwards.

But when I got the bill I was totally surprised and shocked by seeing the bill amount...it was rs. 3022 for only 3 june to 12 june period... only for 9 days... unbelievable. Then I bot mailed them and called them and lodged a complaint regarding these. They used to apologize for the unethical commitment done by their executive, however this is completely cheating on me... without informing how would you made such bills...They used to say pro rata basis bill...what the [censored] should I do with pro rata basis NOW? ..if they would have been informed about this I wouldn't have migrated to the new plan before the completion of the one month...this sucks yar... What they think about us, the airtel is for the customers and who gives them the permission to do such type o[censored]nethical practices... is that because big enterprises can do whatever they like.. I NEED CONCREATE ANSWER AND THE PEOPLE WHOEVER HAS BEEN HARASSED IN SUCHA A WAY PLEASE MAKE A COMMENT HERE... We have to fight for the judgment...

I took 598 plan in airtel with 3GB usage. First month i got 850Rs even though my usage and calls
are within the limits. Last month i downloaded a game of 1.32GB through torrent. When i checked my unbilled usage it has been mentioned that i downloaded 4GB. I got a call from airtel executive stating
your usage got exceeded.

I was trying to explain the customer centre executives ( Damn god ! poor communication guy). He jus ended stating Unbilled usage in airtel site is showing the amount you downloaded. He also states that its with yourself. You have downloaded 4GB. Asking for technical assistance he stated the download / units split view is not possible if you download via ethernet bla bla. Not able to raise a complaint also through the website

For a 598 plan im paying 2400. Dont go for airtel. Take a bsnl 750 plan o[censored]nlimited usage. I hope its cool.
