Greetings!!
At the outset I would like to apologise for writing you upfront and unwarranted as a Customer of Idea Cellular
However my attempts to reach out Customer Care, seniors CCEs and Appellate contact at region level failed to resolve this serious issue I am raising to you with a hope to get satisfactory resolution.
This is regarding the “Pro Rated” charges I have incurred for my number[protected] in last billing cycle.
I would try to keep the description short as possible
Lately I decided to change my Plan to “! Plan 999” and become a more committed customer to Idea Cellular.
I have been using Airtel My Plan as well and it has worked most suitable to me.
My Billing cycle is 20th of every month The last bill I received was the first full month cycle bill as per “! Plan 999”
Around 12th Feb I received an email notification stating my Data Packs which I selected during the process I designed my Plan are about to get over.
Since I am an “unfortunate” user of Idea App, I decided to check App if there is a way to play around with “Packs” and get more “Data Packs" and reduce “Voice Packs”
I stumbled over “Manage Packs” and in a very regular process I increased “2 or 3 Data packs” and reduced Voice Packs.
On the last screen I did receive a flash pop up asking to confirm, I went ahead and confirmed it and did not notice any catch of “pro rated” charges.
A week back when I received my Idea Bill I was surprised to see “Rs. 5618” as Pro rated charges which had no explanation to it.
I thought its a billing error and approached the customer care. They proved to be pretty useless and could not even explain me the charges.
Upon reading a couple of websites which had complaints against the Pro rated charges by Idea I understood what it meant.
I was completely zapped and surprised by the very unfair charge any Idea customer would have to pay.
In case you have not come across this charge personally, let me explain it to you.
“WHILE I MADE CHANGE IN PACKS I HAVE IN MY ! PLAN999 IN THE MIDDLE OF BILLING CYCLE (12TH FEB), THE PRO RATED CHARGES CAME INTO ACTION.
ALL THE DATA WHICH I HAD OPTED UNDER MY PLAN FOR THAT MONTH UNTIL I MADE CHANGES IN PLAN HAS BEEN CHARGED ON REGULAR DATA CHARGES!!!”
Here is what it means
I should NOT have made any changes in the Data Packs I had opted in my Plan and waited until the day my billing cycle ends.
I should have been wise enough to understand the terms associated with this specific situation is called “Pro ration” charges which Idea mentions in very casually on the website without explaining or giving any example and which Idea also mentions in tiniest Fonts very casually in a flash message which User make changes in Packs via App.
Here is my contention
- Why at the very first place would Idea Cellular let customers change the selection of Packs using App in middle of Billing Cycle if it could be such HUGE PENALISING charges?? Has idea intentionally laid out this Trap of letting Customers change the Packs in “!Plan” and then punishing them with Pro Rated charges??
- I did this using your Idea App which you promote a lot. No where on App during the “Manage Packs” process Pro rated charges are explained or clarified how they are calculated. Not only myself but there are loads of other customers complaining about same unfair practise past couple of months. If you google this you would know. You haven’t fixed this months.
- Just by mentioning “Pro rated” charge may apply, does idea shrugs off to the fact that 99% customers would not even know the meaning of this term forget about understanding how its calculated???
- Even while FINDING deliberately about Pro Rated charges, I could not find the explanation on your Web Portal, I ding not find any example of how Pro Rated charges are calculated, you have no explanation in the detailed Bill as well.
- The way during entire process of changing Packs Idea mentions the "Pro rated charges may apply” has been mentioned, its pretty clear by loads of complaints online that its very very usual to miss noticing it.
As I mentioned I am Airtel My Plan customer for long time now and they also allow making changes in the selection of Packs in the middle of Billing Cycle without any such charges, I have an understanding that its not an Industry practise.
I request you to kindly take this up with your concerned team at Head Office earliest, as an aggrieved Customer I am pretty much available to discuss it further over Email/Phone Call or even if I have to travel Jaipur/Head Office for this.
