Dear sir,
This is to inform you about my travel experience in Jet Airways from Dubai to Chennai via Mumbai, on the 28th of May, 2016. I would like to list down the incidences one after the other as it happened.
At first, I took a Jet Airways flight No. 9W 579 from Dubai to Mumbai, and had a transit flight from there to Chennai. At Dubai airport boarding pass was issued for, the above mentioned flight as well as for the connecting flight No. 9W 481, from Mumbai to Chennai. While checking in at Dubai airport, the person at the desk had the courtesy to note down my Dubai number to give me a call in case need be. And while in line for boarding I got a call saying I haven’t boarded yet. my flight from Dubai to Mumbai was wonderful, and I appreciate the service provided. But the problem began after I reached Mumbai airport.
At Mumbai airport, I had to collect my luggage and check in again even though I was travelling through the very same airlines, and had the boarding pass issued at the source airport. Anyhow, as required I had done that as soon as I collected my luggage. And since I had my boarding pass I went ahead to board the flight. I honestly lost track of time, due to not getting proper rest the previous night, and travelling, due to which I reported at the boarding gate past the boarding time. It was my first time visit to the Mumbai airport and was not aware of the silent airport rule. Though I did hear couple of announcements during my time spent at the airport. Anyways, if not announcement I believe the airlines had my phone number to give me a ring if I hadn’t boarded the flight. I was shocked at the response I received from Jet Airways on my missing of the flight. At first, I was sent to the counter where boarding passes are issued and from there to the reservation counter, for which I spent around an hour. At reservation counter after 25-30 mins of checking the person told me there is no availability of seat in the 03:30 pm flight (cost around Rs. 11., 000) and told me to take the 5:50pm (cost around Rs. 8, 000), for which I was asked to pay around Rs.10, 000 and this included change of flight charges as well. There were no refund to my missed flight. Now here change of flight charges makes no sense, it would have if I was asked to pay the difference and the charges for change of flight. The conversation went on and finally when I checked online for 3:30pm flight I found availability of seat and booked it online at 2:40 pm. After booking as soon as possible I went to the reservation counter requesting them to put me in the booked flight but to my surprise the response I received was that they cannot issue a boarding pass. I here need an explanation to why can I book a ticket at 2:40pm for a 3:30 pm flight but cannot receive a boarding pass 5 minutes later. Hereafter, they put me in the 5:50pm flight No. 9W 469 which was around Rs.3, 000 lesser than the ticket I booked. And when asked for a refund in the cost I was told that I would be charged extra for change of flight, so if I cooperate I would not be charged extra. Here I do not understand the logic, that with the difference and change of flight charges I should still get back money. But I was denied refund and threatened to be charged extra.
Now my next and important question is, how is it that I could not be put in 3:30pm flight when I had the boarding pass for 1:15 pm flight, while I could be put in 5:50pm flight when I missed the 3:30pm flight due to the internal issues in the airlines? How is it that I pay when I make a mistake and nothing is done from your behalf when it is your mistake? What is the whole point of taking boarding passes? Even after taking boarding pass the airlines declared me “no show”, while I had to collect and check in my luggage even in a transit flight.
And my final question to Jet Airways is, how was my checked in baggage still at Mumbai airport and left with me in my flight at 5:50? I do not understand how my baggage lost track of time to board the flight at 1:15 pm on the 28th of May, 2016?
Having travelled throughout the night and after running around the airport throughout the day on Saturday I was unwell to go to office even on Monday! My travel through Jet Airways was informed to the employees of Jet airways while all this happened, but not even on humanitarian grounds people had helped. Moreover, the treatment I received as a foreigner was far better than what I received in my home country.
This ill treatment of Jet airways was harassing.
I request you to kindly take a favorable responsible necessary action. Else I wouldn’t hesitate to take this forward.
