I had bought a Sony 3LCD WEGA ENGINE TV MODEL KF-E50A10 from SONY WORLD,Ashok Nagar, Chennai, India in Nov 2006. I had no problems with my T.V. until April 2009. In May 2009, the T.V. automatically started switching on and off by itself, for every 30 seconds. Hence I am not able to
view any program continuously.
I had given a complaint with Sony Service Centre at Valasarawakkam who inspected and after collecting Rs.100 as inspection charge told me that he is unable to fix the problem and told that
someone from SONY will service directly.
After a week, a person called Senthil came saying that he is from Sony and fixed a part called 'Lamp" in my T.V. which he brought along with him. Then the T.V worked for 10 minutes and he
said that everything was fine and asked me to pay a sum of Rs.13,000/- in cash. When I demanded
bill for the same, he refused. I grew suspicious and asked him to take a cheque in the name of SONY, which he refused too and took back the 'lamp' and also collected an inspection charge of Rs.250/- for the same. He did not give any receipt like the first personnel.
As I was leaving abroad, I thought of fixing this problem later. After my return, I again called the Sony Service Centre at Valasarawakkam who once again inspected the T.V. , took Rs.100/- , gave no
receipt and told that he will send the quote for the repair. After several calls nobody is bothered to either attend or send a quote or act to fix the problem. Today I was fortunate to get the person who attended my fault, on phone. He told me that since I refused for cash payment, I have to bring the T.V at my own cost to their Work shop, also pay whatever they charge which may range from Rs.14000 for lamp + additional charge for changing the Board + Rs.3000 for labour. They refused to fix the lamp as before at my house and insisted on somehow getting my TV to their place.
Now, I feel that I am being cheated and taken for a ride by some unscrupulous elements in Sony Service. Since the T.V is less than 3 years old and I had bought it for Rs.1,00,000/- through SONY WORLD, Ashok Nagar, Chennai, I want this T.V to be replaced free of charge as this is only a manufacturing defect. I am a regular purchaser of Sony Products for the last 20 years and I own a SONY Audio System, Sony Home Theatre, Sony Digital Video Camera, 3 SONY Televisions including a LCD, SONY PSP etc. All along I had been using SONY as I had complete faith in your products and they have also performed over the years without any defect. But to my shock, I find that this T.V which is less than 3 years old is giving problem and worst is the Service you offer or can I say the disservice offered to me.
I have been pained and put to great mental stress because of this and I hence request you to immediately replace the T.V . If I do not hear from you, I intend to legally take up the matter with the consumer court, Chennai and get suitable remedy along with compensation.
