Thanks for the useful information. And after purchasing and registering it online, it gets some errors or bad sectors, while it is in warranty period, where will i send it for replacement? to online shopping site?
Hi gurpreet93651,
Thanks for replying, in case the drive you bought is faulty, straight away at the time of opening and connecting to your PC, you may check with the shopping website as well sometimes they do have a policy to replace the drives in certain time limits. If that doesn't work, then you may claim the warranty as I have mentioned in my previous post. Here's the link for more details.

Thanks for help. And how much is the warranty of hdd after registering it with western digital?
Hi gurpreet93651,
It depends on your choice because there is a variety of drives available from WD. The warranty is different for different lines of products. I'll post a link below from where you may choose the one you like and see the specs and the warranty on the same drive.

Thank u very much for ur help.Thats so kind o[censored]...How can i make the backup of my internal drive online and how much data can be copied?
Hi gurpreet93651,
I am glad to know that I was able to help, for online back up there are two ways to do that.
One is that you may go for WD My Cloud, which will ensure you that your data is safe at your own server and you can access it anywhere you want. For more details you may refer to the link below:

Secondary way is that you may create your account on Google drive or One drive and save your files there and can access from wherever you want.
Hope it helps.

Please tell me some tips for maintenance of my hdd in good condition.
Hi gurpreet93651,
Here's few tips to maintan healthy hard drive.
1) Store Your External Hard Drive Flat
If you own a magnetic external hard drive then these hard drives are typically built to lie flat. You should not tilt it up on its side because it has fast spinning platters and a magnetic needle inside, much like a record player.
The way the magnetic external hard drive is designed, the needle moves in millionths of an inch towards the platter but never actually makes contact with it. This extreme precision is based on the fact that your external hard drive should be lying flat.
If your external hard drive is not lying flat then the needle can possibly get too close or too far away from the platter. This can slow down your external hard drives read speed and performance.
2) External Hard Drive Cables Maintenance
There are a few things that you can do with the cables to your external hard drive. One thing is to make sure that they are secure and not loose with the connections. This can cause the external hard drive to connect and then disconnect from the computer without you knowing. This means that it might disconnect in the middle of file transfer which is not good for any hard drive.
Another way to improve performance on your external hard drive is to have shorter cables. This means that the data transfers faster. Long cables are great and handy but short cables are efficient and fast.
Hope it helps.

My new hdd is working fine and delivering best performance but when i connect it to my apple laptop, it dosent get recognized??
Hi gurpreet93651,
Based on your post, may I know what is the file format you are using on the drive?
If it's NTFS MAC will not support, so you need to format it in FAT32 or exFAT in order to use it for both the OS.
Plug the hard drive into your Windows PC. Open the Start menu and search for Disk Management. Select the search result and the Disk Management utility will launch. In the left sidebar, you should see your hard drive and its partitions. Right-click the Windows partition and select Format. In the Format dialog box, under File System, select FAT32. Click OK and complete the format process.
I am posting a link below for the guidelines to format the drive:

Note: make sure you have all the back up before making any changes to the drive.
Hope it will help.

Hi. I am unable to detect my external hdd when i connect it to my laptop. I can not see in device management also. What to do to access it?hdd making clicking sounds
My wd passport 500gb is making clicking sounds repeatedly. I can access it as usual. But the clicking sounds are making me worried. Is it due to some virus activity??Customer satisfaction rating Customer satisfaction rating is a complex algorithm that helps our users determine how good

Based on your post, if you are planning to buy a Western Digital hard drive, the best thing about it is that you are not required to worry about warranties. You can simply register your hard drive on the website for warranty. Once you feel that the hard drive is creating problems, you may initiate the replacement process from the website only.
