[Resolved]  Sheikh Jamil Ahmad — Valuables stolen from Checked in baggage

I travelled from Phoenix to Chennai with my wife in Air India AI126 on Dec 5th. I checked in 5 baggages at the Phoenix Sky Harbour Intl Airport. I paid penalty of $350.00 for 1 extra baggage and extra weight in 1 baggage.

When I reached the chennai airport, none of the 5 bags were delivered to me. I gave a complaint and opted to come and collect it in the airport as soon as the bags are available. I collected 3 bags, 1 bag and 1 bag on 08/12, 09/12 and 11/12 respectively.

When I opened the bags in my home I found out that many items are missing. Some body has opened all my bags and selectively stolen many valuable items. Around 20 items are missing and their combined worth crosses to $1000.00 .

This has caused so much of metal stress and also monetary loss. Some of the items cannot be bought here and they are priceless gifts.

Despite collecting a fine of 350 dollars my baggages were not handled properly. Shame on Air India for employing crooked people who makes second income by stealing their own customers property.

Imagine one person running around numerous stores in US and buying gift items for their loved ones and another person sitting under the safe cover called Air India and selectively stealing all those items as per his wish. Air India has policies which are more robber friendly than customer friendly. This is how it works in Air India

They pay compensation on a weight basis. For example : 1 Kg of goods lost = 500 Rs/

Valuable items that I lost like the Ipod, Watches, PS3 Games don't weigh much. At Air India, Apples are not compare with Apples.

They have their own rules which only help the cause of robbery and increases suffering to the passangers. AI theifs are so smart to steal only the watch and leave the hard case as it is. This means less wieght loss and AI is happy to pay less compensation. This is how AI is breeding a group of white collar robbers.

Below is list of items that were stolen from me. Value in US Dollars is given next to each item :

Brookstone Rolling clock (2) - 30
Brookstone Time projecting clock - 35
Fossil Watch - 103
Citizen Watch - 65
PS3 Games (5) - 5 * 40 = 200
Armani Cent (2) - 120
Sport French cent - 65
Playboy Cent - 30
Ipod Nano 16 Gb Black - 190
Sony Mp3 Player - 35
Cannon Camera - 130
Nursery Rhyme CDs - 20

Total Value is - $1,023

Air India should be banned from operating Intl flights as they don't have Intl standard and spoil the country's image.

Airlines — Watches in Checked in baggage stolen

Hi,

I recently traveled to India from Minneapolis, here are my travel details:
Minneapolis(lindbergh terminal) - New York(JFK) - NWA 1276
New York JFK - Mumbai, India - AI 140, time of dept - 4th Oct 10:30 pm(CT) time of arrival - 5th Oct9:30 p.m(IST)
Mumbai, India - Chennai, India - AI 640 time of dept - 6th OCt 3:15 a.m, time of arrival - 6th OCt 5:30 a.m.

I had kept three watches in my check in luggage. When i checked for its presence in Chennai after collecting my baggages, i found that all the three watches are missing. I dont know where it would have been stolen.

It will be better if airport customs verify for my baggage scanned images, so that they can identify where the watches would have been stolen. It would be great, if the scanned images are mailed to me. Please find my baggage check in slip details provided in Minneapolis below:

Air India — Stolen baggage

I have been flew with Air India on 24th November from NJ, USA to Ahmadabad. as i heard about the flight i thought let me try this direct flight to Ahmadabad but it has given me lot of troubles on all the way. first of all no specification about the luggage allowance. second 2 stop over more than 3 hours each. third is best ever in my life seen that is they steal my Laptop Sony Vaio worth 1450 us $ and projector 1800 us $. I asked to the on duty custom officer and Air India service providers but that didn't worth me. they didn't given a single answer for that. Hardly they took my complain toward Air India. Hop i can get some money back for that.
Friend, Don't you think. Do we buy all the stuff for those people who just stealing luggage from bags? Is there any policy or action we can take against this kind of open cheating from our peoples?

Good luck friend, i glad there are other flight available because i never gonna fly with air India for ever.

So i pay 900 Indian rupees for 03 kgs excess wight charges, so please tell mi what is the exact wight allow in Indian air line flight to sharjaha from mumbai or i want my money back .
Hi,

We fly from Mumbai to Shanghai on 15 th Feb -2009 and we had check in 3 Baggages and in one trolley bag by mistake my wife had put Digital Camera Samsung and we have done strap in mumbai airport but while it came to shanghai the bag was without that strap and i was thinking some fishy but when i got home and open and saw the camera was missing but they had kept back the camera pouch in it, can we trace and how to find who had taken the camera for the same .

hope to hear from you soon ...Air india the crew are very rude and should be thrown out due to no manners to talk to passengers and instead of pressing help button for 45-50 mins time they were not coming or harming to ask even do you need anything etc ..god knows it is working, I even ask the crew manager incharge and he says upto you can complaint anywhere no any problem for us -we will do as what we like and as we like .
Very well said. Air India does not follow International standards in luggage handling and should be penalized by IATA for the inconveinence caused to their passengers.
Instead of concentrating on how many bread rolls and what sort of meals should be given by passengers by all the Airlines; IATA should also equalise quality of luggage handling, check-in, punctuality must be taken into account with all airlines operating under IATA guidance.

Air India — Loss of Check-In Baggage

I LOST MY BAGGAGE ON MY RETURN FLIGHT FROM DUBAI TO DELHI BY IC 896 ON 02/01/2011.

THE TAG NUMBER OF MY LUGGAGE IS : XH 422795.

ITS A PLASTIC BAG WRAPPED BY POLYTHENE.... ROUND IN SHAPE.

MY TICKET NUMBER : [protected]

All my Valuables Lost — Big Loss

To whom so ever it may concern,

My Husband & I boarded sabari express(Pnr:[protected]) from secunderabad to tirupur on 30/.01/2012,going on a business trip.
We carried 3 huge bags and kept them under the side lower berth.as our berths were 1 side lower(23) and side upper(24),in AC 3 tier.In the morning.10 minutes to where we were to get down.My husband pulled the bags out and we found one bag missing that contained, sony vaio laptop(worth 40,000),canon camera (worth 36000),my gold jewellery(3 pairs of gold earring,2 gold chains,1 finger gold ring) & my clothes. We searched the entire compartment.I even asked the attender and t.t in the train they simple said they dont know.the t.t couldnot even take the complaint.I strongly suspect our bag was stolen by the attender there. He observed us alot whole through out our journey.there were times he came and stood closer to our berth,I cant believe that someone from outside entered the train and stole the bag.there was no rpf for the compartment. It was so painful to lose something when u r carrying for an event and those things are so important to you.Nothing in that bag came free.It was all our hard earned possessions. The gold i have lost was only the gold i had.We struggled to move the bussiness for a week because of lack of the that laptop. We have a letter in acknowledging by the police to the complaint raised at a railway police station.and i have all the bills in just to confirm those electronics that were stolen. All i need is the compensation to what i have lost which is all worth 1,50,000 rupees.

Thanks & Regards,
Sreelatha A
Why air India is not paying attention to keep their customer safe, it is a shame for the whole country as it is a national carrier. My one laptop and 3 cell phones were stolen from a checked in luggage at Delhi airport. Try to avoid Air India as much as you can, that is only I can suggest at this point.
