On 10th september 2017, sunday morning i booked uber from my home in malad west to mount mary bandra west. As we were on our way, i felt something not right as it's not the usual cab i book regularly, i was suspected something not right.
I checked with the driver that i clicked hire from malad to bandra & he said not to worry it will not cost more than 500.00 to bandra. When we reached andheri on western express highway i requested him to stop & check & it reflected 1849.00 for just that 8-10 kms.
The driver called the customer service & checked & we were informed that we have no choice but to pay 1849.00 & write a complain for any refund. So we paid & got off at andherie, the driver was very confident that there is definitely a mistake & that we will get the refund.
He said all the details are on the system & that uber takes great pride in looking at rider's complain & that we should not worry. He even directed us how to get to uber office in malad west.
On tuesday morning i visited the uber office, the staff insist that the office is meant for drivers & if i have any complain i should write to customer support.
I did file an online complaint & received their rhetoric reply. With emails going to & fro, it's just being a copy past reply. They just refuse to look into their app issues or make any refund.
Later i got to understand that the amount was charged right until pune - so where does pune come into picture when that was never my drop destination. I have the required proof for the same. I hope this issue is sorted.
I have been made a fool to pay 1849.00 for just 8-9 kms in place like mumbai. For them it's easy money, for me it's hard earned money.

I WAS OVERCHARGED ON MY CASH TRIP

Happy to clear this out for you, Cleta.
The fare displayed at the beginning of the trip holds as long as the destination remains unchanged and the GPS suggested route is followed.
These fares are calculated dynamically, based on your pickup and drop off locations. The fare considers duration, distance, high demand in the area, tolls, and local conditions (traffic, road blocks). It also includes service tax payable to the government.
If you're seeing a different fare for a similar trip that you took previously, it's due to the dynamic pricing algorithm based on current supply and demand. This difference in pricing is part of the upfront fare and no separate notification will reflect in the app.

Hope this clarifies.
