Sir,
I went to State Bank of Hyderabad, Lalaguda Branch, Hyderabad about a month ago to open a new savings bank account. The man at the counter insisted that I should produce my identity proof and residence proof even to obtain an application for opening the account. i went to the bank again after two hours with the original documents and I was asked to get photo copies of the same. When again after another hour, I returned to the bank with the photocopies, he grudgingly gave me an account opening form, but told me very rudely that the branch was not opening any new accounts during the next one month. He said that he was not obliged to give any reasons for that and if I wanted I could complain.
I went to the branch again a month later and wanted to see the manager. The manager made me wait outside for almost an hour and after that when I forced my entry inside, he just took a glance at my form and send that he did not have enough staff and officers to accept new account opening applications. In fact, he said that he did not have time to listen to me as he was ‘busy’ with something else.
I do not understand why I was not told in the first instance that they could not open a new account. I was unnecessarily made to visit the bank five times and waste more than ten hours in all, all in vain.
With this kind of state of affairs and treatment for the educated people, I can as well imagine how are the lay people tormented and harassed for even small services.
I suggest that you should have some training programmes for your staff in courtesy and soft skills. The two or three of them with whom I interacted sound more like brutal police officers rather than polite officers. They give us the impression that they are doing us a ‘favor’ and forget that customers are their bread and butter.
I am really upset with the whole episode.
