This is a complaint i first made on 9 august 2018 to the gurgaon (Sector 53 branch) and the complaint is still not fully resolved despite repeated requests.
I have been charged "debit card charges" every year since 2015 for an amount of approximately inr 460 each year.in total, since 2015, i have been charged inr 1, 827!! The debit card i hold is the easyshop debit card, the most basic card on offer. I only realised these wrong charges recently when i was going carefully through my bank statements and immediately raised this issue with the bank. The bank has reversed 1, 295 of the total charges but 532 still remains to be refunded, plus lost interest.
There is absolutely no basis for these charges because i maintained a balance of over 1 lakh in my account during 2013 to 2015 and since 2016, of 30-40 lakhs! Hdfc should have enrolled me in the appropriate hnw customer programme as my account balance kept increasing, but they did not. For accounts having a balance of over 1lac, there should be no debit card fees as per hdfc's own guidelines.
Not only was i denied the privileges associated with being a high value customer by being enrolled into the hnw customer programmes (Such as a higher value debit card and reduced banking charged), i have on the other hand incurred baseless charges and so much inconvenience thanks to hdfc's fraud transactions and incompetence.
The relationship managers i spoke to at the gurgaon branch said that the debit card charges were justified and they have reversed inr 1, 295 as a "service gesture"!! On what basis can you charge a customer holding over 1 lac in their account, debit card fees for the most basic debit card???
I have been thoroughly disappointed with my experience with hdfc bank. Not only did the bank personnel not seem to understand how serious a matter these wrong charges are, they have been more like cars salesmen in their behaviour, often providing misleading information and trying to weave long stories based on sketchy facts. This complaint has been outstanding for over 6 weeks and i have faced much mental harassment and stress over this. I have been shocked that hdfc does not understand what proper banking practices are and are out to fleece their customers and mislead and dupe them. This is nothing short of fraud dealings.
If this is not rectified by hdfc asap, i will take legal action including complaining to the rbi about hdfc's fraud transactions and unethical banking practices.
