Dear club mahindra,
I am a member of the club mahindra since almost 3 years now. I was sold the membership by one of your agents after his persistent follow-ups of over a year of trying to sell this membership to me. I was very hesitant in taking the membership because of the issues faced by existing members in getting room availability. However, he sold me the purple membership on the premise that the booking can be done for any resort as early as 15 days in advance. I was willing to pay the premium for the same because i wanted the experience of holidaying to be easy and fun. However, all my nightmares have turned out to be true!!!
Ever since i have taken the membership, i have used the club only twice - once for the lake pawna resort (In the initial days as the agent himself ensured the booking then) and once in kumbhalgarh (Which was months in advance). The funniest part was - even after being a premium member, i was not allowed to book more than two studios and since i was travelling with my entire family, i needed two more studios. Hence, i contacted one of the travel agent who 'sell' clubmahindra resort rooms was able to give me two rooms - which eventually were bigger and better than the ones booked by a purple member - me! The resort was good but the experience was not as satisfying as a decent hotel.
Ever since then, i must have made at least 10 attempts on various occasions - only to realize that i was not getting any bookings even months in advance!!! Some of the available dates had one day in the middle of the period as not available and the only resorts which were available were either too far for a shorter break or were available in the off-season only!!! Finally, i decided to cancel my 25 years membership in less than 2 years! And this is what they mailed me:

We once again draw your attention to the membership rules about cancellation of the membership.
The cancellation charges are as under:
Amount paid till date rs 866250/-
Deductions:
60% cancellation charges of membership cost rs. 539999/-
Cost of holidays taken rs. 15000/-
Cost of rci enrollment rs. 2000/-
Cost of gifts dispatched rs. 33750/-
Asf overdues rs. Nil
Total deductions rs. 590749 /-
Refund amount rs. 275501/-
Since the refund amount paid by you so far is less, we urge you to withdraw your cancellation request and continue to enjoy holidays with club mahindra..

Cancellation fees of 60%!!! I was not even told that this is the surprise that club mahindra will throw at me!!!
I decided to hang on and try my luck. I thought lake pawna was the closest resort to mumbai and would try to book it again. Firstly, the rule is that you can book it only once a year. Secondly, you have to book the resort starting from the 1st of the previous month - which whenever i tried on the 1st even at 12 noon - the reply would be - not available over the weekend.
Once, i had received a call from the club that as a purple member, i would have an rm - someone who called me once to introduce herself but never called back even after repeated attempts from my side.
The customer service team who reply on the phone will never mail about what they said as they 'do not have access to the internet'.
All in all, i feel absolutely cheated as even if i had kept the money in a simple fixed deposit, it would earn me around rs 80000 every year. Add to that the annual fees of rs 15000 would make it rs 1 lac. With that amount i can easily take a short break anywhere in india with my family in a 4-5 star resort without any issues associated with club mahindra!!!
I recently asked them how many members they have - they said 160000!!! And resorts - 41!!!
If you don't refund my full money, i'll take major legal action

Since i did not get any response from them, and again i had problems in booking:
I am shocked that no one bothers to respond.
Again, i wanted to book pavna resort. So i called on 1st june early morning. They told me bookings begin on 3rd june. I called on 3rd june at 10.45am, just minutes after the booking window for july month had opened. I was not surprised with their answer... No bookings available for any of the weekends!!! Ridiculous. I was sold this membership of highest order with the selling point that i will get into any resort in 15 days or even 7 days before travel.
I want my full money back. I would rather invest that money and use the interest amount for holidaying in resorts of my choice.
I hope to hear from you or you will hear from my lawyers and the media.
