Complaint against ICICI Bank
I refer to the remittance of dollars to USA made through ICICI Bank, Bidhannagar Branch, Kolkata ( Base Br. 6950) on 20th May 2019, I observed conversion rate of dollar is changed after committed to me during ultimate transaction. To be more precise, while I signed the paper, I was communicated the exchange rate as $ 1 = Rs 70.70 and I allowed the ICICI bank to debit my account accordingly.
Later, I found that it was debited at exchange rate at ₹ 71.03 instead of ₹ 70.70 (i.e. 0.33 p more for a dollar). When I asked the reason of such arbitrary application of exchange rate of dollar, their Bidhannagar Branch passed the buck to Mumbai Branch, who are the final authority for such transaction, although it was not revealed to me earlier.
I told Bidhannagar Branch that such unilateral decision by Mumbai is uncalled for as I didn’t give liberty to debit any extra amount without intimating me. It’s absolutely unethical, as well.
I didn’t receive any satisfactory feedback from Bidhannagar Branch during last two week despite my repeated request.
Although Bidhannagar converse with Mumbai and came to know that it was the rate Mumbai did find when they processed. My feelings is, this case should not be processed then as Mumbai can’t alter the deal finalised at Kolkata without any intimation. Moreover, this transaction couldn’t have happened in case I didn’t allow freedom to debit my account.
This additional amount need be reversed by ICICI.
