Sub :- Shocked - BRAVIA LCD TV KLV40NX500 - Failed LCD Panel within 4 months of purchase

Hi,

I was a brand SONY loyalist & that made me buy a brand new SONY BRAVIA LCD - KLV40NX500 on 29 Jan 2011 for a whopping Rs 60,000 in New Delhi.


Having grown up in a generation where TVs worked flawlessly for 10-15 yrs, I was just SHOCKED to see the LCD fail in just a matter of 4 months. Yes.. a brand new 40 inch SONY BRAVIA LCD started to have numerous horizontal and vertical lines with distorted display. The problem became worse & right now the display is totally blurred.

I made a complaint ( No[protected] on 7th July 2011 & the service centre technician visited me today. He took pictures & told me it is most probably the LCD panel issue, and the panel will need to be replaced once Sony India approves of it.


Now my anger and frustation is that

1. How come a brand new LCD that too from the so called premium brand like SONY fail in just 5 months ?
2. Doesnt SONY supposed to do any quality check on the LCD panels ( the heart of the LCD) that they use ?
3. Why should a end consumer after paying his hard earned money should go through this sheer frustation. ?
4. Even if you replace the faulty LCD panel, what is the gurrantee that the new LCD panel will not fail ?

I can undertsand or accept that there are a variety of conditions responsible for the correct working of an electronic device, but an LCD failing just within 4 months of its purchase that too from SONY is very hard to digest.

I urge Sony India to look into this matter & replace my LCD at the earliest.

Hello,

Yes my complaint has been resolved now. The summary of the whole story is :

After inspecting the LCD, I got a call from Sony India & he told me that the LCD needs to be taken to a service centre & its a panel issue. I asked the person as t why the LCD failed & he calmly said that its an electronic thing & we cannot pin point the exact reason - voltage spikes or something. I was adamant to get the LCD replaced, but the guy simply refused to do that. I found him quite rude at this stage. I kept on pressing him but he didnt budge at all. After this i was finally fed up & I agreed o get my panel replaced. But then came another shocker.. there will not be any new warranty on the new part installed. !! I was just surprised. I said its quite obvious that any new part should have an extended warranty of atleast one year. To this Sony technician replied, that the warranty will not be extended it will remain the same .. ie one year from the date of purchase of the LCD.

I totally lost my cool after this. I told him its unethical on part of Sony to do this. But that guy became rude & had a "total not interested attitude". His replies were full of even more sarcasm. "You have used the LCD for 4 months ", "its not a company policy to extend warranty" .."its a n electronic part .. any electronic part can fail ", "i will not give you any numbers or email ids" etc etc. I simply asked him to give me his boss's number or email id, to which he simply refused. Finally I kept the phone down saying .." i dont want to get the LCD repaired".

That evening was really tense one for me. In front of my eyes were my hard earned money gone down the drain ... and i just cudnt believe that Sony India could be so ignorant to a customer. I had so high regards for Sony and its products !! Then i just googled the email id of Sony MD & sent a mail describing all that had happened.

The next day, another person from Sony called me up. He was very polite and courteous. The next 3 days just saw a different level of customer service experience. They extended the warranty & took the LCD & and returned back in flat 2 days time. During this, they kept me informed on the progress. and kept calling me almost twice a day. I was impressed. My faith was regained. Also eventually, it was found at the service center that the panel was perfectly okay & it was a motherboard that had gone faulty. They changed it & rite now the LCD is back with me & is working perfectly fine.

I have also received a letter from Sony India on the extended warranty of the faulty part.

Right now I am happy, but i just pray that Sony India gives this level of customer service to every customer . They should not have been so unrealistic & ignorant to a customer's shock & despair. Nevertheless, I am happy to see things mended by Sony. I like SONY products & hope to remain like that.

    i have some problems in my phones speaker. my phone is in the warrant period. so i go to service center at "adarsh laza khasa kothi cricle jaipur ". where they don't give me proper solution . they tell me that your mobile phones speaker is changed but when i check then i see they clean the dust . and after that they tell me that " we don't have speaker in stock". some thinks also held there. overall they don't give s solutions all the peoples. so plz call them and ask about it.

      I purchased the SonyVaio laptop Model No. VPC EA16F/B/G, Serial No. 7008377 from Deekay Electovision, Gumar Mandi Chowk, Ludhiana, Ph:[protected], E-mail; [protected]@yahoo.com vide Cash Memo No. RI-2657 dated 20/8/2010 the E-Series with Graphics model having reputed brand world wide. But I regret to inform that:

      It is the worst laptop I have ever seen.
      Its battery is not charging.
      On uninstalling the battery and start the Lap top through Electricity connection and then installing the battery in the Lap top I get the message The installed battery may not be properly connects to the computer or may not be compatible with the computer. Click OK to enter Hibernote maode & remove & reinsert the battery.
      See the electronic VAIO ® user guide for more information about using the battery.

      OK.

      No battery is detected.
      If we press the option of OK the Laptop shuts down.

      Kindly get the fault rectified at the earliest.

        I purchased a 32cx420 lcd from Manish Sales GWALIOR, on 28-6-11.
        It was delivered to me on[protected].
        Mr Ravi shivhare contacted me on 29-6-11, regarding installation of lcd.
        As the lcd was not delivered at that time I told him to contact on next day.
        Next day when lcd was delivered to me I made a call to the call center, they informed that the registration for installation is done by Manish Sales on 28-6-11.
        And there is no need for a fresh registration and lcd will be installed positively on 1-7-11.
        I waited for two days.
        As no body turned up, I called on 2-7-11 to call center.
        To my surprise I was informed that the status of registration was canceled on 30-6-11, so there is no question of sending a technician for installation.
        As per advise by the person at call center I made a fresh registration for installation, time line of 48 hrs was given with a guaranteed assurance.
        I waited 4 days, no body turned up for installation.
        Today I called call center and to my great surprise got informed that the registration for installation which was made on 2-7-11 is canceled as the product is still undelivered.
        I purchased the lcd on the reputation of SONY. Otherwise there are so many companies begging to sell there lcd offering to get there payment after installation.

        Dear Sir,
        As you would see that whatever channels you suggested has been tried many times. No response from your side, no follow up. it feels like barking against tree. The LCD was installed on 25-7-11, after we pressurized the Dealer Ms Manish Sales.

            Dear Sir/Madam,
            Recently I serviced my Sony hi-fi audio system, model no. MHC-VX-101 from an authorized Sony service center, M/S Neosa. They repaired the product by replacing two motors, CD lens and all the switches. I have tested the so called faulty parts (2 motors and the switches) and found that they are in working order. This is really alarming that we, the customers are being inappropriately charged for parts replacements which are still working!
            I still have the parts which were returned and the bills with me as a proof. I request an investigation on this by Sony officials and demand an appology from the Sony corporate office for the inconvenience caused to me for this and a refund of the money that I had paid for inappropriate replacements of working parts.

              hi,
              i hv an Xperia mini pro which is under warranty whose touch panel was not working . Also in it the photos and videos get deleted automatically . I gave my cellphone to SIRI COMMUNICATIONS SONY ERICSSON SERVICE CENTER to correct it. They didnt take this issue seriously and kept my cellphone for more than a month also called me on different dates , when i visit there service center they say that its not yet came irrespective of giving the dates to collect.Now i have got my cell phone back touch screen issue is resolved but they didnt do anything for the data getting deleted automatically and now after coming from service center my cellphone is hanging. This is very pathetic service they gave me and my cellphone is still not working properly.

                Sir,

                I bought sony ericsson hand set - K850i - 3 years back. It is the one mobile even my enemy should not have. Apart from that due to the repeated problems and with the money spent post the warranty period, I could have bought 2 new mobiles.

                Problem what I had and gone for replacement of parts with in this short period, even though, I am soft handler.,

                1. 2 times mike was not working - ( One ended talking).

                2. Camera button was not working - Gone for replacement with salem service - for which I had travelled 180km from Hosur.
                3.Key pad was not working - Serviced at Hosur ( Acer service point - Above GRT Jewellers) - They are saying, they are the authorised service station. But at any point of time no one get the spares for which every one have to wait for 20 days. Fortunately, I could get with in 20days time.
                4.Very recently, I am getting the problem of, whenever I press the scroll button, the display Goes off. I have to wait for some time and pray God, please come back. When I approached for this problem, as usual this sony ericsson service people at Hosur, said no spares and asked me better go to Bangalore to corporate, to get it serviced. As such I had spent so for more than Rs 6000 for this hand set servicing itself.( Hand set price was Rs 19000), I wanted to throw this hand set for exchanging with any other branded mobile( Other than Sony Ericsson), when I approached Purvika mobile for exchanging , they are asking for Rs1500 ( Where in its worth of Rs 25000 - My calculation of value addition)

                My complaint should reach to concerned responsible person of Sony service and when there is no proper service at Hosur, there is no point of having a service centre.

                My best advice to Sony India company, is what ever may be the best company, unless otherwise if there is no proper service, they will ruin within no time.

                Hence dear friends, don't buy any of the sony ericsson mobile.

                sony ericsson, mobile — repeated problems in mobile

                i have k850i mobile .i have purchased in jan 2008 . after 5 month the mobile shows many problems . first the tuch screen and button was not working. after i went to service center the repaired it. again within one month same problem arrises . again i went to service center. they again corrected. after it in next month my phone incoming speeker stope working, service center replaced it. now my mobile start with problems that it hang during call and shut down, and after call phone hange, phone can not cut after making call. since purchase of this phone i am contionus problems within one year .i want that my phone should be replace by new phone . i am fade up with this phone

                  Dear Sir,

                  With due respect I would like to place before you my legitimate problem. I have
                  purchased a New Satio-U1(Red) mobile of Sony Ericsson from your dealer
                  “Nu-Link” in Asansol, West Bengal. After a month it giving trouble to me while
                  net surfing, playing videos and Audio too. With these problems I rushed to the
                  dealer and they took me to the authorized Servicing Centre of Sony Erisson in
                  Asansol. There your technical person checked the set and told that the set is faulty
                  and it will be replaced by the new one soon, because it was not repairable.

                  In the meantime I have collected the contanct nos. of higher officials in Kolkata
                  to get latest progress in this regard. And I made contact with them. They have confirmed me that all the official Documents has been sent by them to the factory in Chennai and soon I will receive
                  my set.

                  But I am sorry to tell you that it is about 2 months to go and I have not received
                  my set and your officials are saying that company has stopped manufacturing of the
                  said model, so I can choose another model of the same rate from the dealer’s counter.
                  The dealer is saying how could I give you another set unless company advice me to do so.
                  Now when I want to communicate with the officials in Kolkata, they are no more receiving
                  my call. In this situation I request your goodself to please look into the matter and solve the
                  problem. I am very much eager the receive my old model i.e., SATIO-U1(Red) from the
                  company. And if it is deliver to my office address or Home address I will be highly obliged.

                    I has purchased mobile phone from Univercell on 29/Jan/2011 details of the phone are as below,

                    Phone make: Sony Ericson
                    Model name: X10 Mini Pro (U20i) ([protected])
                    Rate at which purchased: 13749+tax

                    First complain was registered on 21/Apr/2011 against work order no:SE311AGR15034 recd the mobile after service on 23/Apr/2011 but the problem was still there and i was asked to observe
                    Second complain was registered on 07/Jun/2011 against work order no:SE311AGR12302 recd the mobile after service on 17/Jun/2011 but the problem was not rectified
                    Third complaint was registered against work order no:SE311PHZ12595

                    Many complains were registered at sony ericson customer care pleading them to replace my phone but none of them responded and i was hurt badly by their response to the customer i have also listed the customer ID numbers agaist which my complains were registered by customer care the ids are 90472583, 90503966, 90543052, 90598171. The person i spoke to are Rajeev/Dole/Jaidheep but non of them responded in a positive manner.

                    Even after so many follow ups and mental stress i am informed my phone will not be replaced.

                    I have to you for help as a last resort and hope.

                    Same issue with me for the same handset and I am still following up with them to get my handset back in a working condition provided I do not need to visit the care center again in few days after getting it back.. But no help from the company yet.

                      Dear Sir/Madam,
                      I purchased a Sony Ericsson Vivaz Pro Handset on 28-09-10 in the name of Samrat Kanjilal, my handset startede creating problem last 1 month ago. I have given my handset Sony Ericsson Vivaz Pro to the service center.The service center people rectified handset Touch Screen problem but the sound problem is still the same,there is no sound in the hanset mode when i activate loudspeaker the sound is proper this problem is not rectified yet.
                      The screen of the handset is not properly fixed it is coming out i dont know how the service center people fixed the screen.This problem started within 7 days after i received the hand set.
                      I purchased this Sony Ericsson Vivaz Pro handset on 28-09-10 from Kapoor Electronics Somdutt plaza kanpur(U.P). It's only 9 months the handset started creating problem like i have mentioned already.
                      I purchased this handset for 22,000 Rs and i thought that the smart phone of Sony Ericsson Vivaz Pro handset performance will be good compared to Nokia handset which i was using earlier,but in 9 months i came to know the actual performance of the handset.
                      Sir i am fed up with all this kind of problem's i want my handset to be changed it is still under warranty.
                      Hope you will look in to the matter.

                      Sony Ericsson Mobile Vivaz — Phone not working in One month only

                      Hi,

                      I bought a new handset of Sony erricsson Vivaz from Electronic Store Aundh around one month back only.
                      Yesterday all my messages got deleted automatically and now the mobile is switched off.
                      In this one month mobile did not fall down at all or there is no possibility of any physical damage to the handset.

                      This is not at all acceptable from Company like Sony.

                        I had purchased 2 Sony Walkman NZ W202 from Jumbo Electronics, Dubai in September 2010. ! of them refused to work from the beginning, and the Authorized Sony Service Center, Ahmedabad had it replaced. Now, however, out of a 2 GB player, if I load more than 70 MB, the player crashes.
                        The second player, though worked in the beginning, faced the same problem where post 7 MB, it would crash. Recently I took it to the Sony Service Center in Kolkata to have it rebooted where they told me 'there is a virus in your player. WE cannot do anything. The repairing cost will amount to the cost of a new player, so we suggest you just throw it away and buy a new one.'
                        Firstly, I find it hard to believve that a Sony representative will be willing to tell me that a 9 month old product is worthy of the trashcan, and MORE IMPORTANTLY, my product is still in the warranty period. SHOULD I NOT BE OFFERED A PRODUCT REPLACEMENT? If oneplayer could be replaced in Ahmedabad, why the double standards in Kolkata?
                        And the player is 9 months old! I have had at least 5 trips to the service center in that time. How can Sony even sell such faulty products, that crash with 1.2 GB (1.5 GB in the last case) memory free out of a 2 GB player????

                        This is entire episode has left a very bitter taste in my mind, and you can rest easy knowing that I for one will never return to patronize your brand, and will ensure all my friends are warned also.

                            i am rohit agrawal from bhubaneswar (Orissa). I have purchased a Sony ericsson X 10 Mobile set from one the local shop at bhubaneswar name " sale point". At the time of purchase those people told me so good things about this set because this set is so costly. They told me that the battery backup will be last for 3 days, but after purchasing the set i found i am cheated. from the 1st day i found that the set is ordinary, battery is not lasting even one day, ever after charging 100% in the morning its shut down in the evening. I complaint the same to the sale point people and they return back twice to repair the same but still the problem is same. now i dont know what to do? so friends if you are looking for a sony ericsson mobile set specaially xperia x 10 , i worn you not to go the same. I was using the nokia sets from last 10 years and not found any problem , i was idiut that i go for the sony ericsson set..... so many problems are there in the set. god save the user of sony ericsson mobile sets.

                              I would like to share the worst after sales service experience one can ever have. I bought a brand new SONY ERICSSON XPERIA MINI PRO (U20i) in January 2011. Since the day i bought the damn phone it was havin a lot of problems. The battery life was so low that it lasted for just 1.5 - 2 hrs on stand-by mode. A few weeks later the phone started hanging up. I thought the probable reason was one of the software i downloaded from Android Market and so i formatted the phone, but the problems persisted. In May 2011 the phone screen started jumping and flickering and i could not switch it on unless i connect the charger. On 7th May 2011 i took the phone to a SONY ERICSSON AUTHORISED SERVICE CENTRE in Thane ( Ccom Telecommunications PVT LTD, Eternity Mall, Thane West ). Initially i was told that it would take them 7 - 8 days to rectify the problem so i asked for a temporary handset to use in the meanwhile but was not given one. On 18th May i called the service centre because i did not get their call. I was told that they will call me in an hour but they did not. I tried calling them again for 2 days but they did not answer the phone. I checked online for an alternate number of that service centre and found it. On 20th May when i called them they said that the motherboard is faulty and needs to be replaced which will take another 6-7 days. Till 30th may i did not receive any call from them so i called them and was told that the new motherboard fitted in the phone is also faulty and that they have ordered a new one and it will take another 3-4 days as it was being mailed from Chennai. Now i have been calling them for the last 3-4 days continuously but they are not answering my calls. I have no clue what is happening with my phone. I am disgusted by this experience and have vowed to not buy a SONY ERICSSON phone again in future.

                              I would like to advise the people to sincerely consider this experience before buying a SONY ERICCSSON phone as it can happen with you also

                              Sony Ericsson Xperia Mini Pro — Pathetic Battery and Handset performance

                              have been following up for my problem for last one week but everytime i get a auto response that my query would be resolved at the earliest but no further communication is received.My ticket id is [X-Ticket:90877765,2].My problem is that i have purchased a Sony Ericssion Mini pro on 28th May.Right from the beginning the battery backup was pathetic.I have give my handset to your authorized service center for about 4-5 times,but every time they returned the handset stating that the handset software was updated.But the result of that software updated didnt enhance the performance of the battery.On 14th July 2011 i had once again gave my handset to the same service center and insisted for a battery replacement for which they asked me to collect the same after 15 days.On 27th July i went to collect the battery,to my surprise the battery which was replaced was not sealed and looked like a used battery.When i inquired with the service center informed that this is how the replacement has come from the company.When i asked for my job order copy back they refused to give the same to me.

                              Then i contacted the support center of Sony Ericssion last Saturday.Since then i havent got any proper response to my problem.Every time i put up a remainder i get a auto generated message from your system.I request you to kindly look into my complaint at the earliest.Please find below the details of the service center which i had approached for my complaint.

                              No.of repairs previously undertaken:I have give my mobile to the above service station for about 4 times and always they use to say that they have updated the software.Then on 14th July 2011 I insisted for a battery replacement which i took delivery on 27th July 2011.

                                Mobile Handset Hazel (J20i) purchased on 10 Oct 2010. It got problem with ear speaker and I contacted Sony Authorised Service Centre in Jammu (Mobile Care, 608/A, Gandhi Nagar, Jammu, Phone number - [protected]). Handeset was taken by them under Work Order No SE[protected] on 18 May 2011 under Warranty Repair. Even after more than a month, I have not got my hand set repaired. They have got a toll free number [protected] but it functions like a information broadcast system means they also just tell the status which is uploaded by the Authorised Service Centre. Virtually both, the Service Centre and Toll Free Number speak the same language and I am not getting any probable date of repair of my hand set.
                                I have spoken to Toll Free Number([protected]) on 02 June (Name of the Person not Known), 06 Jun at 1845 hrs (Mr Gyaneshwar), 06 Jun at 1900 hrs (Mr Jatin Kumar), 11 Jun at 1610 hrs (Name of the Person not Known) and 15 Jun 1105 hrs (Ms Dolly). Every time I got same reply that speak after 4-5 working days.
                                Today (20 Jun 2011), the authorised centre has again given reply that handset is under repair as parts not recieved.
                                I am facing lots of problem because of this and may have to purchase a new handset leading to extra expenditure without any fault of mine.

                                  I purchased Sony Bravia T series LCD TV. On completion of warranty period, my TV vision is not proper. I complained to Sony Show room. Technician visited first after long chase up and informed that software is to be loaded in TV. On continuous chase up at Baroda sony service centre, technician came and informed me that your panel has gone out of order and is to be replaced, the cost of which will be @ Rs. 10000 and that if it is available with the company. Baroda Sony Service Centre has sent me the estimate for repair but have still not confirmed that the panel is available with the company or not. So LCD TV is working but we see in Black and white. Many problems comes in electronic items and so I decided to purchase Branded company, but that is also a dilema to me and spending money in Branded company like Sony is also in vain. Till now there is no communication to me and so above noting for the customers in India.
                                  I have the same problem, the dealership had given the contact no. of sony technician. The sony technician has quoted a figure of 12000 for my Bravia T-series. After a bit of googling I found that many people have faced the same problem with Bravia series internationally (international discussion forums). If this is a recurring problem why is sony not rectifying it and making consumers shell out so much money after as little as 2-3yrs(which is conveniently after the warranty period has ended). I have really lost my trust in the sony brand which I had immense respect for till now. Sony must look into the problem if it wants to retain customers in the future.

                                    Dear Sir/Madam,

                                    I wish to bring to your notice the genuine hardship and very poor service provided by your people. I shall provide you with the entire scenario of events which are as hereunder:
                                    1. The TV was not turning on. So, called the customer care on 29th May 2011. The response was that a technician will visit the place to have a look at the Tv.
                                    2. The Technician visited on 30th May, 2011 and found that it was a power board problem. He told that the board will have to be replaced and also said that it will take 2-3 days to replace it.
                                    3. The Technician came on 1st June, 2011. But, the house was locked and so the Technician came on 2nd June, 2011 with the Board. He tried installing it but still the TV didn’t turn on. He said that there was some other problem and one more board has to be changed.
                                    4. So, the Technician came on 4th June, 2011 with two new boards and installed it. Still, the TV wasn’t working. He told that he would have to take the TV to the factory to run some tests. He said that he would give a replacement. So, we agreed to this and on 4th June, 2011 he took our 40” TV and gave a 26” as a temporary replacement. The Technician told that he would call on Monday (6th June,2011) to inform the status.
                                    5. From then started the whole problem. The Technician didn’t call on Monday. He didn’t reply to our calls. Frustrated, we tried again and again and atlast he picked the phone and gave the phone no of his manager and asked to find out the status from him.
                                    6. The Manager’s Phone No is: [protected].
                                    7. He started dodging our calls and every time we had to use a different number to speak to him. Everyday, he started saying that he will give the TV today or some parts is not available or it is under observation or testing is going on. He gave dates on which he would deliver the TV and postpone it stating some other reason.
                                    8. It is almost 3 weeks, since the TV has been taken for repair and still I haven’t received either the repaired TV or a new TV set.
                                    The most irresponsible company. The same problem was my LCD too. As on today about one month has passed and no one responding when my LCD will be repaired and returned back to me.

                                    I request all the people if you are looking to buy any product, see other option except SONY.

                                      Battery charge use to last for 3 days. Gradually it last for 1 day only. Product is 6months old and is under warranty. Service center says there is liquid damage to the battery hence is not covered under warranty. There is no damage to the hand set physically or otherwise as per them. They are not willing to give me the status report. Name of the service center is Trans Technologies Solution Pvt Ltd, Zoo Road, Guwahati (Assam).
                                      There hands are tied it seems. Reception counter takes abnormally long time to attend to the customers. Scarred of giving status report.

                                        I PURCHASED A SONY SONY WALKMAN MODEL NO.NWA-W202/BM MX3 SL NO 5372776 FROM SONY CENTRE IN newdelhi. THE WALKMAN HAS BEEN DEAD FOR FEW MONTHS. AFTER HAVING GOT THIS CHECKED AT SONY SERVICE CENTRE, SONY REFUSED TO FIX THE WALMAN AND INSTEAD OFFERED ME TO BUY A NEW AT A DISCOUNT. AWESOME , WHY DO YOU BUILD PRODUCTS THAT YOU CANT FIX. WHAT IS WARRANTY MEANT FOR. I ALWAYS GO FOR SONY PRODUCTS BECAUSE OF THE QUALITY AND SERVICE ASSURANCE THEY GIVE. BUT THIS IS SHOCKING TO KNOW THAT IN THIS CASE THEY ARE HELPLESSSS. PLEASE SONY, PRODUCT TEAM , GUYS WHO ACTUALLY COME WITH THESE PRODUCTS DONT YOU SINK THIS BRAND BY MAKING THESE PRODUCTS THAT YOU YOURSELF CANT FIX. I WILL APPRECIATE IF MY GRIEVANCE IS HEARD ON THIS FORUM .
