I have found everywhere on www.irctc.co.in that there is no any reason for charging tatkal charge as Rs 150/- instead of Rs 75/- for sleeper class and as Rs 300/- instead of Rs 200/- for AC classes in non-peak season in the months of February and March. Following are the information about tatkal charges on www.irctc.co.in :
    "Class Tatkal Charges
    Non-Peak season Peak season
1st Feb. to 31st March 1st Apr. to 31st July
1st Aug. to 31st Aug. 1st Sep. to 31st Jan.

    2AC 200 300
    3AC 200 300
    AC CC 75 150
    SL 75 150
    2S 15 15

Note:-Trains and classes with average utilization of 80% and above from April to September shall be realized uniform tatkal charges applicable for the peak period." I intend to draw your attention that in above note it is mentioned for months April to September but not for February and March at all.

This is to bring to your kind attention the traumatic experience I as a bona fide woman passenger had to face during the journey from Thiruvalla to Bangalore in the Kanyakumari-Bangalore Island Express at 4.10 p.m. on the 7th of January, 2009. I, with my daughter, got into the train with a second class sleeper ticket to Ernakulam, for a journey of less than three hours. Since we had paid the excess fare for travelling in sleeper class, we confidently entered an empty -looking compartment and sat down at the far end of a seat on which a woman was lying down, with her permission. To avoid disturbing the woman, I kept my daughter in my lap. But some male passengers who were accompanying the woman in the same compartment began hooting and yelling at me, as if I were some kind if criminal, demanding that I vacate the seat immediately. When I replied in polite language that both o[censored]s were carrying sleeper-class tickets entitling us to travel in such compartments from 6 a..m. to 9 p.m. according to Railway rules, they again yelled at us using abusive language with vulgar connotations. Some attempted to pull my hair, and break my specs. Some of them even tried to drag out my bag which was kept under the seat, and throw it outside. They did not leave out even my daughter who was sitting on my lap, and tried to misbehave towards her. During all this time I was under excruciating mental agony and shock.
After some time, a passenger summoned the policeman and TTE to the scene. Their response was even more strange. They told me I should be grateful that the above passengers did not throw me overboard from the running train. They added that everything depended on their charity and goodwill. They could decide whether or not to accommodate me inside the compartment. I tried to explain that we had paid excess fare for travelling in a sleeper compartment during daytime, they simply laughed at us. Anyway, they led us to another compartment and seated us there.
This traumatic experience very clearly demonstrates the impunity with which such hooligans flout guidelines laid down by .the Railway authorities. The Reservation Rules laid down by Indian Railways clearly state that “When berths are reserved for passengers, the intention is to provide sleeping accommodation between 9 PM to 6 AM. During 6 AM to 9 PM, the passengers concerned, if required make room for other passengers in compartment up to its carrying capacity”(sic). It is a pity and a grievous anomaly that (i) bona fide passengers, especially women travelling with sleeper tickets, alone or with children, are thus left at the mercy of such villains who are a threat to their dignity and modesty, or even their lives, and that (ii) the employees of the Indian Railway such as TTEs, who are supposed to safeguard the interests of passengers facing difficulties, are blissfully ignorant, or pretend to be ignorant, of existing Railway Rules.
In the light of the above, with a view to preventing such humiliation, inconvenience, and mental agony to innocent passengers, I earnestly request that at least the following measures be taken by the authorities immediately:
      (i) On all sleeper tickets it should be mentioned that passengers travelling with reservation for berths and seats are supposed to accommodate day time passengers between 6 a.m. to 9 p.m.
(ii) On the sleeper ticket purchased for day time travel, it must be shown that it is valid between 6 a.m. to 9 p.m., as per existing rules.
(iii) Inside sleeper compartments, notices should be displayed, conveying the gist of the above-quoted rule of Indian Railways.
(iv) TTEs and security personnel must be given clear instructions regarding this, so as to prevent similar mishaps in the future.

I too came through the same experience you had gone through. we were going to coimbatore from tellicherry in Mangalore -Chennai igmore mail. Along with the luggage, I was accompanied by my 3yrs daughter and my mother. we get into S4couch, one TTE came and check our ticket and goes on. But after some time another TTE came to say that any one who should travel beyond Kozhikode have to shift the couch, as it is the couch reserved for Kozhikode passengers.i further confirm whether we can sit on any couches other than S4, and he gave us a nod. We shift to S5 and found a place were 2presons were sleeping on both middle births. I make one person woke up and request him to lie on the upper birth which was empty. He woke up and went up. But after the train reaches Kozhikode the crowd came, and the persons along with these couples came, from other seats and the person who went up as if he was a gentleman shout against us to get up and go to general classes as if we were travelling with out ticket and it was under his mercy we were able to sit there for that time. I too shout against him that I am having the sleeper class ticket I don't need his mercy to travel on that train. The TTE came and said that we can travel only on S9and S10.other vise we have to pay another Rs.15 to travel on this couch but of course not on their seat .At that time I thought it would be the rule .and get up for another seat of the same couch readying to pay the amount. But the couch doesn't bought the amount from us but show us the seat were we can sit. We further change our seats to find the murmuring of co-passengers' that they are sitting congested just because o[censored]s. And why the TTE is doing such a bad deed to make others disturb.
we gone through this bitter experience just because, the railway is not giving a clarity information about the rules/rights regarding the sleeper class ticket passengers. The passengers who are travelling by paying extra charges for the sleeper class, other vice mean that they can travel on the sleeper couch if the co- passengers admits them and the railway who is getting the money have nothing to do with this. Which would be greatly against the self esteem of everybody.
I very much support your statement regarding the measures to be taken by the railway authorities on the matter. And kindly request the concerned authorities not to transfer the authority to the persons travel on the train but to retain it and to use it for the facilities of all the passengers not only for the persons who have reservation ticket.

      Confirmation code
For those who have complaints towards individuals and/or individuals working for organizations, please publish the name and rank(if applicable) of the persons who harass you in your complaint. I understand the hooligans who troubled the lady in the complaint above might be difficult to get but the name of the TTE should be very easy to get. Also the name of the policeman who took no action. Publishing these names can help - if official action isn't taken, someone will take some 'unofficial' action against them. But we need to know the identity of those who trouble helpless folks.
I am really feel sorry the situation that you had undergone in the Sleeper Compartment but there is a catch. People who travel on long distance trains like Kerala and Mangala Express which starts from H. Nizammudin to Ernakulam, they have to make reservations 120 days in advance to get a seat / birth. During the journey which is more than 48 hours, the passengers feels very tired and would wish to stretch their legs and sleep for a while etc. and what do you think if during this time other passengers who has to travel from One station to the other come and sit on their seats they would really feel uneasy and if at all if someone is allowed thinking that he will get down at the next station, then another guy will get in on from the other station and this will continue till the end of the journey.
So, I would request railways to take back this rule of allowing passengers sit during 6 a.m. to 9 p.m. in long running trains, otherwise what is the use of making an unnecessary reservation. Such passengers who wish to travel like that may travel in General Compartment or put pressure on railways to increase additional General coaches so that such situations are avoided for better.

A vast majority of Rajasthani people residing in Tamil Nadu are facing difficulty to travel to their home town Rajasthan. There is only one weekly train between Chennai and Jodhpur(6126) which is insufficient to handle such a vast majority of population. Bookings are always full when counter opens.

for this we the marwari buisness community request the railways to either increase the lapses of weekly Jodhpur express on daily basis and make it a daily superfast train from Egmore or extend the route of Navjeevan express beyond Ahmedabad to Jodhpur/Ajmer

We promise that if the train starts it will never be a burden on railways. Marwaris will be greatly thankful to The Railway department and promise you a helping hand in the development of Nation and The Railways.

There is NO notice outside the Borivali east railway bridge announcing that, people without platform ticket cannot walk on it . How are people from outside suppose to know this ? And then why should people pay so much fine when appropriate rules are not followed ? Morever the railway bridge near the second class carraiges, as well as the passenger bridge across borivali station are in such bad condition, I know a friend who slipped and twisted her ankle on it . Why should we pay such a hefty fine for a mistake which does not seem to even keep these bridges in good conditions ? . The fine we were made to pay was 250 rs + rs3 for platform ticket per person . where is all this money going if not for improving the bridge ? Please do the needful and make sure there are Notices telling the rules, in legible print and font outside the bridges .

                Dear Sir / Madam,
I had booked a ticket in Garib Rath, Train No. 2612, from Bhopal to Chennai on 10/02/2009, in AC chair car. I would like to bring to you the serious issues faced by us.
                1. We were not able to even sit in the AC Chair car as it was so dirty and was untidy to even sit. Fearing health issues, we immediately searched for a seat in 3 AC.
                2. The TT agreed to give us a seat at extra cost and we paid the balance amount and moved to another compartment in 3AC (By getting Extra fare ticket from TT).
                3. To add to our misery, that was even more un-hygenic environment.
                4. No one bothered to clean the train for 24 hours that we travelled in this train.
                5. There was no water after crossing Vijayawada. (Another 7 hours travel was without water!!)
                6. There was no Pantry car for a train which goes for more than 24 hours.
                7. We had to depend only two stations where the train stops for breakfast and lunch (Again unhygenic food served on the platforms). If we skip one station, we have to starve for another 3 - 4 hours for the train to stop in another station.
                8. Obviously a human cannot use the toilets because of the conditions there which you could imagine.
                9. When this train is compared with Rajdhani, it is only in stop-overs in station and speed, not considering the basic necessities of the passenger. Because the rate of ticket is less, it does not mean that such a unhygenic environment can be created by the railways authorities and force the passenger to suffer. We definitely can be provided with pantry car which can charge us for a good food as it is being charged for the bed-rolls and blankets. We definitely can be provided with a clean environment to travel. We definitely can be provided with water in toilets.
                10. When we asked some of the authorities on the train, they said the state of this train is in the same manner for past 2 years.

Are we missing something and being wrong in raising this grievance?

                Thanks

I recently travelled by one of the passenger trains... Then I got to know that it has got a side middle berth...It was the most aweful experience I had travelling by train. It is the most uncomfortable way of travelling. The number of people in each compartment is too high and it is suffocating to travel.
I don't know who has given this idea of the Side middle berth... Really it is pathetic to get into the berth itself...
One thing I felt bad was ... I have also paid the same amount as the other people who are on the other side, then why should I be treated like this...
                    Why is this discrimination???
One more thing to say... even in Tatkal they give these tickets...
Should not forget that Tatkal we pay 100% more price of the actual ticket...
When soembody pays so much money why is the travel so uncomfortable...
GOVT... PLEASE THINK OF PEOPLE ATLEAST ONCE BEFORE SOME CHANGE IS MADE...
send me all rails web site
side berths are very painfull...When we are giving enough money for travelling, then why????..Railway Govt. should consider the height status.because it bocomes very uncomfortable when a person of height 6ft is bound to use one of the side berths...where as it is found that..persons having not so enough height is using the normal berths...why???? this diversity??????...

                      Dear Sir,

This is to inform you that I am a frequent traveler of SE and SECR section. Last a few months I observe unclean SL berths of Shalimar- LTT (No.8030) and HWH ADI Express (No.2834). The windows, upper and lower berths are under thick layer of dust. Floors are comparatively clean.

On 6th February’09 when traveling on Shalimar – LTT Express (S4, 18) I contact Mr P K Nath-TTE / Attendant and Mr B R Rao, TTE in this regard. They inform this to the on board sweepers but they ignore to clean my berth because as per them they are entitled only for floor cleaning.

At last Mr P K Nath kindly arrange a clean berth for me.

On 29th January’09 I reached Bilaspur station in time and hear announcement regarding arrival of Samarsata Express (2151) in platform no- 02. Passengers crossed the line by foot over bridge and observe the same train approaching platform no.- 01. Passengers whimsically crossed the line to catch the train. This may cause accident on that day due to wrong announcement.

On that day When traveling on Samarsata Express (2151, S7, 48) take dinner pack from IRCTC men. He charged Rs.45/- for vegetable meal consists of vegetables, rice and Chapati. That Rice was half boiled and Chapati folded in plain paper was cold, uneven in shape and hard as leather. Salt not supplied.

Indian Railway is our national pride. Honorable Railway Minister invited by foreign universities for lecture on management. But we the travelers expect a little bit comfort during journey by train.

Indian Railway wave site do not entertain complain of travellers.

We request your goodself to kindly look after the cleaning of berths, quality of food supplied by IRCTC and careful announcement for arrival or departure of train.

                      Thanking you,

                      Yours faithfully

On 16th March 2009 Yesterday I travelled from Pune to Kayan in 1022UP Indrayani Ex. seat number 12, coach number D3, PNR No. [protected]. During the entire journey no TTE checked the tickets of any passanger in the bogie. As usual the bogie was infested by illegal passangers, passangers without properly reserved ticket, illegal entrants, illegal vendors etc. I can substantiate my statement with adequate proof/evidence.

                        Sir

Most probably you would have seen the General Compartment of Express trains on the move on railway tracks or at station waiting for a green signal. What sort of rule allows those compartments to be overbooked in majority of cases, to such an extent that people who board on the them find it difficult to even stand straight? Is it because they are poor or they don't complain or you are sure you would never get into such a situation (Ofcourse you don't have to care for poor people by dint of whose hard labour you are surviving in this country...in this case)?

Can I suggest you to take up this matter and add some more bogeys of General Compartment, atleast in Express trains and not allow those bogeys to be overbooked to such an extent that passengers don't have enough space to stand. To implement this solution you may have to increase the fare little bit which would be acceptable rather than robbing the poor people of their dignity as a human being to survive in India.

Eagerly waiting for your implementation or reply (with reason, why it can't be so?).

                        Thanks

                          Dear Sir
In Secunderabad region, Dilshukhnagar reservation center has 3 reservation counters. But, in the afternoon, from 2 to 2:30, they are closing all the 3 counters, and telling that it is lunch time for them. I have never observed closing counters like this anywhere. May be when they are changing their duties, they may take 15 minutes break if there is only one counter. But, here even there are 3 counters, they are closing these 3 at a time. This is lot of inconvenience to the passengers, who are going to book their tickets. Please look into this matter and see that there is atleast one counter running without break from 8 AM to 8 PM.
                          thank You.

I am submitting this complaint from Bhagalpur railway station. Gatekeeper for the 1st class waiting room did not allow me to use the waiting room even when I am having a valid ticket and he started making argument with me.
According to rule, anyone can use the waiting room within the 1st hour of the train arrival. My train arrived at Bhagalpur railway station at 4:55 AM and I have come to waiting room at 5:30 AM.

                                  Hello,

On 27th January 2009 I was booking ticket on line through irctc site in TATKAL Quota. When i checked sits availability in indianrail.gov.in at 7:52:07 Hrs i found that only 37 Sits are available. As per rule it should be 72 for TATKAL. And you can not book tickets before 8:00 AM. So how can any one book ticket before 8:00AM?. I have screen shot of indianrail.gov.in.

Previously also i had problem with Online Reservation system. But irctc did not respond in good manner.

What can be done i this situation? Either tickets are booked before Reservation Open time by agents or Reservation system is having some problem. If reservation system is having some problem then it should show faulty result daily. But it is not happening daily.
BEING AN AGENT SIMILAR PROBLEMS ARE FACED BY ME ALSO, AND DOES NOT REACH TO DEAF EARS EVEN AFTER SEVERAL E MAILS TO IRCTC AS WEL AS ITZCASH
This happens all the time, I was searching for a tatkal ticket on 22 Oct & as I opened sites at 8, it shows tatkal status as waitinglist of 58, how is that possible, this means that agents book tatkal tickets before 8am
I also face the same problems even in Online booking and over the railway station counters. When the counter open at the very first day of advance booking. the very first ticket shown waiting list . How it happens. I think there are some underground tieups with railways and booking agents .

Railway authorities should look into this issue and do needful

                                  Railway — irctc not working

I am trying to open the irctc.co.in but its automatically prompting me for authentication id and password. even if i put in my irctc id and password its not accepting. moreover if the page gets loaded then also its not accepting my password.
                                  Sir,

I have written the correct age that is 17 years, but reservation clerk was typed 12 years. I was not seen that immediately. After some time I again went to the reservation clerk she was left over due to her duty time is over. I asked any clerk to please checkit and do needful. He argueing with me it is not our mistake it your mistake without seeing the reservation form. After seeing that form his replay is this ticket issued the madam then she has to do it.

                                    Dear Sir/Madam,

This is to bring to your notice that yesterday(26.01.09) i had taken a General Ticket to Dhanbad from Howrah in Saktipunj Express at 10:15 AM in the General Class from Rishra(W.B) Counter. Due to some personal resons i had to cancel my Journey, So i went to the Rishra Counter at 10:00 PM in counter No:-1 for cancellation but the person sitting at the counter refused to cancel the ticket. He is telling this ticket can be cancelled within 2 PM of the same day. But as we know that a General Ticket can be cancelled Within 12:00 Midnight of the same day when the ticket has been purchased. Ultimately after a long altercation the reservation Clerk Cancels the ticket. This type of things unneccesary creates mental harresment and wastage of time to the customer. Plz take neccesary action against these type of Personels.

                                    With Kind Regards/Debabrata Seth

My son said we should not travel in the Cockroache express, if this is the impression on mind of small citizens of india, what will they think about INDIA. Please take care of small things in future....
