Hi,
I had used Hathway Internet connection 2.5 years back. As I was moving to different location in February 2016, I had requested the Hathway technicians to disconnect the service. When I had approached Hathway office to submit the internet modem, they clearly confirmed that there is no amount outstanding. I had requested to shift the connection to newly shifted location as well, however as Hathway does not operate in the newly shifted location, there was no possibility. So I had requested them to disconnect the connection and they said OK.
However I kept on receiving bills almost every month over my email and I asked them to correct the mistake over email but there was no reponse from them. A month back, I got a call from someone asking to pay the dues, else it will be filed with Legal department. I also wrote to [protected]@hathway.net and [protected]@hathway.net, asking the status of my account, which they confirmed to be 'Terminated'. Today I got a message as below:
Legal notice has been sent to for Hathway Broadband A/c no.[protected] value Plz pay immediately Rs6810.22 to avoid further legal action. For any query cont Legal Team [protected], [protected]
FIRSTLY, I believe the message above is purely FAKE as no legal department will write 'Plz' instead of 'Please' and 'cont' instead of 'contact'.
SECONDLY, when I called the Legal Team number, the lady sounded dramatically loud and rude, posing to be from so-called Legal department, wherein she asks me either I pay the due of 6810/- within AN HOUR, or the case will be lodged with Delhi court and I have to pay more than 4 times of the due amount.
THIRDLY, if a legal department sends such messages for payment of dues, they never call back in an hour to follow up if I have paid or not. That was the moment when I felt something fishy!! I checked the number in Truecaller, and found the numbers to be reported as SPAM by 300 users.
And even if I take off all the suspicions above, WHY SHOULD I PAY IF I HAVE NOT USED THE SERVICE AT ALL. And if I have submitted my internet modem back to the branch office, where are they offering the service to??

So, to conclude, I WILL NOT PAY THE DUES WHICH IS FALSE, and THIS NEEDS TO BE REPORTED TO THE CONSUMER COURT for cancelling their licence of running Cable & Datacom services.
